Some employers have access to a check-in kiosk for events they are hosting or fairs they are attending. This allows the employer to track attendance, and follow up if necessary.
To check in, you can either enter your account email address or scan the QR code using the camera feature on your phone or through the Handshake mobile app.
Check in via email
If you attend a Handshake-partner institution and you have an activated, public account - the kiosk will pull information directly from your profile, allowing for a faster check-in! This information may include:

- Last Name
- Institution Email
- Institution
- Area of study
- Graduation date (Month and Year)

To update the pre-filled information, click the grey button Update Information in the lower-right corner of the square, then make the necessary changes. Click Save Changes to update, or Cancel to ignore the changes.
If you don't attend a Handshake-partner institution, or if your profile is inactivated or private - the kiosk won't be able to pull information from your profile. You'll receive a prompt to enter your information manually. This may include:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Institution Email
- Institution (select from the dropdown)
- My Institution is not Listed (check this box if your institution isn't listed in the dropdown)
- Area of study
- Graduation Date
- Month (select from the dropdown)
- Year (select from the dropdown)
Note: other reasons the Kiosk may not pull information from your profile include - not having internet connection on your mobile device or scanning the QR code and choosing to open in a mobile web browser.
Once your information is added, click the blue button Save Change in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Each employer is responsible for curating their own check-in questions.
- If the employer has chosen not to ask for additional information, you can check in immediately by clicking the blue button Check in, located in the lower-right corner of the screen.
- If the employer has requested additional information, either required or optional - the kiosk will prompt you to continue with the check-in process. Click the blue button Next until completed.
Once you've successfully checked-in, the kiosk will provide a confirmation by stating "Your check in was successful!"
Click the blue button I am done! for the kiosk to return back to the check-in screen.
Check in via QR code
When logged into your Handshake account, scan the QR code using the camera on your phone or tap Account in the lower-right corner of the Handshake mobile app, then select Scan QR code for event check-in.
Note: if you scan the QR code from the Handshake mobile app, you'll need to give the app permission to access your camera.
After scanning the QR code, a check-in confirmation will display on the screen - tap Done to complete the check-in process. The employer's company profile will load after the check-in is complete.
