If you've recently created a job in Handshake, and the Matches tab shows zero results, there are various reasons this may occur. This resource will help you understand why you aren't receiving matches and steps you can take to widen your talent pool.
All possible reasons are listed below - click on each headline for additional details.
Job has expired
The job is no longer active. Matches appear only for jobs that are active at one or more institutions.
Complete either step below to view new matches for your job:
- Renew your job
- By renewing your job, you can repost your job to new and previously requested institutions and retain existing applicants.
- Click Edit job expiration dates to renew your job posting.
- By renewing your job, you can repost your job to new and previously requested institutions and retain existing applicants.
- Duplicate your job
- By duplicating your job, you can easily copy your existing job details while removing previously requested institutions and past applicants.
- Click Duplicate job to duplicate your job posting.
- By duplicating your job, you can easily copy your existing job details while removing previously requested institutions and past applicants.
Note: after updating the expiration date or duplicating your job, the posting will be resubmitted for approval at each institution. For additional details, refer to Understanding Job Posting Approvals.
This job has not posted to any institutions
For matches to appear, the job must be posted to at least one institution.
- Click Post job to an institution to post your saved job to your preferred institution(s).
- Refer to the Institution section in How to Post a Job.
- If you have not yet been approved by any institutions, refer to Understanding Institution Approvals.
No matches to display
No matches will appear when we are unable to find candidates who fully match the filters you currently have applied.
To receive matches, we recommend taking the following steps:
- Change your job preferences
- These are the specific preferences you can edit:
- Graduation Date
- Level of Study
- Courses
- Click Manage your preferences to edit your job preferences.

- Open your job to more institutions
- Post your job to additional institutions to extend your candidate reach.
- Click Post to more institutions to post your job to more institutions.

No institutions have approved your job yet
Once your job has been approved by the institution(s) where it was posted, matches will appear.
In the meantime, you can do the following:
- Review the approval status of each institution the job was posted to
- Click See institution approval statuses to review the details of each institution.

- Post the job to more institutions to extend your candidate reach
- Click Post to more institutions to post your job to additional institutions.
