We’re launching three new student products this summer: A New Dashboard, Mobile and Campus Profiles.  

 

The New Student Dashboard

What’s new on Student Dashboards? The new student dashboard moves from search to discovery. The big change we’ve made to students’ dashboards is adding collections of jobs that are pushed to students.  They’re prebuilt searches that we display to students based on their individual profiles, preferences and activity!  Examples include: Jobs Near CampusJobs in Locations You’re Interested In and Recommended for You.  We want to help students shift away from spending hours hunting and pecking for jobs by pushing curated lists right to their dashboards and to their phones.  

Why is the New Dashboard Important:

  1. We want to help you realize all sorts of potential career paths.
  2. By collecting profile data, career interests and activity, we’re hoping these collections help you go beyond standard search criteria in your job discovery process.

Student Dashboard FAQs

What does this change for students? Discovery will appear on the student’s Dashboard, when they click Home or the Handshake logo.  Some of the links (for Jobs and Events) that they are used to seeing on the left will be moved to the top of the page.  Appointments, Resources, Career Fairs will be moved under a Career Center drop-down at the top of the page.  

What determines the jobs different students see in their dashboards? Through student’s Onboarding flow, Career Interest Section, Profile, and their activity on the system we gather a ton of data on students preferences.  We use that data to curate collections for them!

Does Discovery work for all students regardless of field of study? Yes! We’re hoping that Discovery will aid all students, regardless of concentration by going beyond major to define potential career paths.

Can a student modify collections they see? While students can’t directly remove collections, they can favorite the ones they like so they see them again!  

How can I help enhance my job search experience? Fill out your profile!  The more information we have about you and your experience, the better we can be at recommending jobs!

 

Mobile

What is Mobile: Handshake is launching its first ever student mobile app in late-August!  With Handshake’s first true application, we’re going beyond mobile-optimized web pages for all students.  Our initial app rollout will be focused on the student’s job discovery process.  Students will use it to explore jobs, favorite them and then apply! Students will also receive notifications for applications deadlines and messages from employers. 

When will the Mobile app be live: The new mobile app launches on 8/24/17! There is some variability with this date as the app store needs to review and give their stamp of approval.

Mobile FAQ

How are desktop and mobile different? Mobile is focused on job discovery. Exploring jobs, favoriting and then applying. While all Handshake features (Career Center, Settings, Etc.) are mobile optimized (i.e. can be opened easily on a mobile device), clicks beyond the job search process will take students to a web browser.  So, if you're looking to find, favorite and apply for jobs on the go - the mobile app is ideal. But if you're looking to deeply customize your profile we’d recommend desktop.

When will mobile app be available on Android? We’ll be launching to IOS (iPhones) first, which represent 80% of Handshake students, and we’ll launch on Android in 2018.

Does mobile work on all iPhones? Handshake’s app will work on iPhone 4s or later and on those operating on iOS 9 or above!  It will not run on iPads at this time.



Campus Profiles

What are Campus Profiles: Students have always been able to make their profiles public to employers, and now can opt-in separately to make their profiles public to their peers, thus facilitating peer to peer learning. Only students who opt-in to campus profiles can see the profiles of other students who have also opted-in at their school.

Why are Campus Profiles Important: We want to enable peer to peer learning amongst all students! You might not know what kind of work experience or projects to include on your profile, or you may also be curious about potential paths for a given major. Now you'll be able to learn from other students at your institution instead of struggling to fill it out alone or requiring a career counseling appointment.

When are Campus Profiles Launching? Campus profiles will launch with the new dashboard on 8/24/2017.

Are campus profiles school specific? Yes, students who opt-in to campus profiles will only be able to see other students who have opted-in at their institution.  A student can only see another student's profile if that student has also opted-in. Again, the goal is to enable peer to peer learning!

How do students opt in to campus profiles? In settings, there is a separate opt-in option to make your profiles public to other students. All students’ profiles are defaulted to private.  

What information can students see on other students’ profiles?  Students can see each others' School Year, Graduation Date, College, Major, Work Experience, Organizations/Extracurriculars, Courses, Projects and Skills.  They cannot see each others' GPA, Work Authorization, Email address, Ethnicity, Gender, Hometown or Documents such as resumes.
