If you encounter an error that says "You do not have permission to do that", this indicates you do not have the necessary permission to access the particular page or complete the task in Handshake.
Note: while the error and the root cause are the same across all user types, the implications or necessary steps to resolve the error vary, depending on the user type and level of access.
Refer to the following links for career services-related and student-related workflows.
For Employers, this error could appear if you're:
- using a link for a fair that is invite-only, but the link isn't the tokenized version required
- Followup with the school hosting the fair to request the tokenized fair link!
- using a link for an event that your company has not been added to
- Followup with the school hosting the event to request to be added to the event!
Note: the situations listed are the most common examples, however, there may be others that result in this error as well. The root cause remains the same––the item is restricted from your user's view.
If you encounter this message elsewhere in Handshake, verify your user role and level of access. Refer to A Guide to Employer Role Types in Handshake.
If you believe you should be able to access the page or complete a specific task, please submit a ticket to our Support Team for additional assistance.
