The onboarding checklist helps us match you with the best-fit opportunities as they become available. After completing the assessment, you may be invited to move forward through the checklist, step by step.
Completing onboarding process ensures you're fully prepared to begin training if you're matched with a project.
Note: Completing the onboarding checklist does not guarantee acceptance into the MOVE Program. If a project aligns with your skills, we’ll reach out with an invitation to join!
Step 1: Assessment
Submit your application by completing the Assessment. To learn more about the application process, refer to Apply for Handshake’s MOVE Program.
Not all applicants will move beyond the assessment stage. If your skills and experience align with one of our projects, we’ll be in touch!
Step 2: AI Interview
If you meet the qualifications after the Assessment, you’ll be invited to complete an AI interview. Learn more about the process in How to Access and Troubleshoot Your AI Interview.
Step 3: Setup payments on Deel
All onboarding paperwork is managed through Deel. After your interview, you’ll need to create a Deel account to sign the Terms of Service contract and set up your payment information.
Important: This contract is not an offer letter and does not confirm your acceptance into the MOVE Program. It is a standard Terms of Service agreement required to proceed and to ensure timely payment during training once a project becomes available. If you are selected for a project, you will receive a separate offer outlining the specific dates and timeframe. Please note that these dates may differ from those listed in the Terms of Service contract in Deel.
To complete this step:

Start Account Setup
- Click the radio button next to "Setup Payments on Deel", or
- Check your inbox for an email from Deel with a link to create your account.

Create Your Deel Account
- Accept the invitation to join Deel.
- Choose a password and enter your first and last name.
- Confirm your email by clicking "Confirm my email" in your inbox.

Select Contractor Classification
- Individual: Your personal information will be used for invoices and documentation.
- Entity (e.g., LLC): Your business information will be used for tax and payment purposes.

Complete Your Profile
- Enter your personal details to create your Deel profile.

Sign the Terms of Service
- Click "Contract" on the right side of the page to review and sign the Terms of Service.
- Tip: Make sure your legal name is correct. If you need to make changes, contact the Handshake AI team—not Deel support.

Submit Tax and Payment Information
- Provide your tax details (W-9) information before signing.
- Note: If you're added to a project, you'll be hired as an independent contractor (Form 1099). This means taxes will not be withheld from your payments, and you’ll be responsible for managing and filing your own taxes.

Finalize
- Confirm that you’ve read and agreed to the terms.
- Sign the Terms of Service contract to complete the process.
Need to make an update to your Deel account? Most updates can be made directly to your Deel account. If you're unable to make an update contact the Handshake AI Support team.
Note: If you're participating as an LLC, you must register with Deel as an entity, not as an individual contractor. You also need to provide valid U.S. entity registration paperwork and set up a valid bank account associated with your business.
Trouble finding your Deel invite? Check your spam, junk, or promotions folders. Also make sure you're checking the same email you used to apply for the program.

Step 3: Verify your identity on Deel
From your onboarding checklist, select the radio button next to Verify your identity on Deel. Alternatively, you can click your account icon in the upper-right corner of Deel and select Verify account.
To complete this step, choose a document type to upload for identity verification:
- Drivers license
- Passport
- Personal ID
- Residence Permit
- Other Document
Note: The document you use to complete your verification will be used as part of the compliance documents your client collects. They will not have access to the selfie provided. Please use a document from the same country as your personal address.
