Some employers in Handshake have the ability to schedule interviews (also known as sessions or meetings). These function differently from on-campus interviews as these are entirely created and managed by the recruiter, and there is no job posting attached or application required.
Signing up for an interview
If you've been selected to participate in one of these schedules, there are two ways to be added to a session; the employer may invite you to a specific time, or the employer may share a link with you that allows you to pick your own session.
When an employer invites you to a specific time, a notification email will be sent to you with the subject "You are invited to interview with COMPANY NAME". This email will come from firstname.lastname@example.org, and there will be two links, one to this article to learn more, and a second to Review Schedule.
Here's an example of the email:
If an employer shares a link with you for signup, you'll be able to use that link to navigate to a page that will list available session times. Click on your desired time, then click Sign up, at the bottom of the page.
Managing interview signups
To access existing (or past) signups, click your account icon in the upper-right of Handshake, then click on My Interviews.
The page that loads will provide a list of interview signups (past and future dates are both included, no filtering needed).
If you need to cancel an upcoming meeting, click on the company name, then click Cancel Reservation in the popup that loads.
If the recruiter has to cancel the session, a notification email will be sent from "email@example.com" with the subject "Your session with COMPANY NAME has been canceled".
Here's an example of that email:
Joining a scheduled interview
The Join button will be gray until 5 minutes prior to the scheduled start time - at 5 minutes till, the Join button will turn dark blue, and clicking it will launch a new tab with the video.
Interviews may be hosted via Handshake Video or an external video tool. Refer to the specific interview to confirm.
- If the button says Join Video, this indicates the interview is hosted via Handshake Video.
- Refer to Handshake Video Requirements & Troubleshooting for more information to help you have a smooth video experience.
- If the button says Join External Video, this indicates the recruiter has added a link for an external video tool. Click that button to be taken to that platform.
