Virtual career fairs on Handshake offer an exciting opportunity to connect with employers virtually. You can take part in them anywhere that has a dependable internet connection.
If you plan to participate in a virtual career fair, this guide will provide you with an outline to make the most out of your experience!
Step 1: Register for a virtual fair
You must register for a virtual fair in Handshake in order to attend it. Registering for the fair guarantees your spot, and allows you to sign up for sessions.
To find a virtual career fair of interest, refer to Identifying and registering for a virtual fair.
Step 2: Sign up for sessions
Once registered, you'll need to sign up for sessions. Signing up for sessions ensures you'll meet with employers of interest.
To learn more about signing up for sessions, refer to Managing Sessions.
Step 3: Check out our video requirements
Handshake employs Daily as its video provider, so it may be necessary to make certain adjustments in order for you to participate.
Reviewing our video requirements beforehand is key to making sure you have a great experience at the virtual fair.
Check out Attendee Requirements for Integrated Video for more information.
Step 4: Join your sessions
On the day of the virtual fair, you'll need to access your schedule in Handshake, and join your virtual sessions.
For more information on locating your schedule, and joining your sessions, refer to Join a Virtual Career Fair Session.
Step 5: Attend your sessions
Once you join your sessions, you'll have access to an array of different video features.
To learn more about the available settings and options, refer to Attending via Video on Handshake!
If you're having audio, video, or chat issues during your session, you can report it. This will generate a ticket for our support team to review, and will allow us to continue to improve our product.
To report a participant, right click on their name in the participants list, then select Report User. The user will not be alerted that they have been reported.
For more details on this process (including screenshots of what the forms look like), refer to Reporting an Issue as an Attendee.
Step 6: Wrap up your session and continue the relationship
Sessions will end automatically 20 minutes after the scheduled end time, to allow for additional conversation.
You may leave a session and rejoin, but you may only be connected to a session via one device.
When the session ends, a prompt will appear with additional steps to take with the employer, including the option to follow them in Handshake and review recommended jobs - one job will be listed, and you can click View all to review all posted jobs at your school from this employer.
