Employer collection enhancements
We’ve increased the number of employers that can be added to a collection from 50 to 100. And in addition, we’ve implemented two of the most commonly requested new collections:
-
“Creates social impact”—helps you highlight nonprofit and environmental organizations that are affecting positive change.
-
“Great for major group”—expands your team’s ability to make targeted recommendations to students. Much like the existing “great for college” collection, you’ll be able to highlight employers that are great for students with specific major groups.
To learn more about these enhancements, read the help center article here and a blogpost here.
Targeted email reporting updates
We’ve made updates to Targeted Emails to allow (beta) partners to report on email performance efficiently. In the coming weeks, this will be available to all partners:
-
Added a delivered and click rate metric for individual emails + renamed the existing “unique clicks” metric to “unique URL clicks,” which is more accurate.
-
Adjusted the open rate calculation to only include successfully delivered emails (i.e. removing students who previously unsubscribed)
-
Allowed the capability to download Targeted Email performance metrics across multiple emails as a bulk action.
Learn about metrics updates here and new quick download capabilities here.
Sunsetting mass emails
Before we launched Targeted Emails a few years ago, we offered a tool called mass emails. While it has effectively been sunset already, users can still access it to download email engagement data for emails they sent in the (distant) past. To simplify the product, we’re removing access to that historical email engagement data by 12/19.
-
If you haven’t downloaded data you still need access to, you’ll still be able to request it from support after the sunset is complete.
For students…
Employer collection “badge” and filter
All students now see a “badge” on employer profiles and job postings indicating that the employer was added to an employer collection by your team, and a filter on the jobs page allowing your students to identify opportunities posted by employers in collections.
-
Read about the employer collection badge and filters here.
Remote filter in job search
All students can now easily filter on jobs based on “on-site” or “remote” and see the location type on the job card and job details page. This will help them quickly find remote opportunities, as “remote” is the highest keyword that is searched for.
For employers…
Employer validation
Employer validation is live and is slowly being incorporated into the employer Trust Score calculation. As a result, you can expect to see most employers' Trust Score rise. On 12/15, we plan on completely removing the Trust Score.

Messaging students
As we work to replace the Trust Score with Handshake’s new employer validation process, we’re changing the way employers gain permission to send messages to students. Previously, employers have needed a Trust Score of 80 or above to send messages. We’ve begun rolling out a new rule that employers will instead need at least one approved job at an institution in order to message that institution’s students. The new rule is in place for a subset of employers—we will continue rolling out the new rule to more employers over the coming weeks. Note: with employer validation in place, Handshake is now monitoring employer messages for signs of malicious activity.

Salary transparency
We are taking action to help employers comply with new (and existing) legislation requiring salary ranges to be present on job postings. We’re also aiming to help you easily identify opportunities that are not in compliance. We’ll share more about our approach in the coming weeks!
Handshake video gallery view
By the Spring 2023 fair season, students and employers attending virtual group sessions on Handshake will be able to see multiple people at one time in a gallery view, similar to Zoom or Google’s group video settings. Building out features like gallery view will improve user comfort with Handshake video as a whole and improve our ability to drive valuable live connections on the platform.
Displaying medium on appointment list page
On the appointment list page, we will soon be displaying the medium for each appointment to make it easier for users to see at a glance whether upcoming appointments are virtual or in-person.
Formatting appointment messaging
We will be adding a new text editor tool for pre and post appointment messages that allows users to format with links, bullet points, numbered lists, underlines, and more.
