Location Radius Filter
- We wanted to quickly address an item from our most recent Career Services newsletter. It was noted that the job location radius filter - previously a part of the student job search experience - was being added back. Although this hasn’t yet been rolled out, we are still planning to re-add it! Development is now slated to begin in September. We know this is an important filter that students love and we’re excited to reintroduce it. Stay tuned for more updates on this front!
Coming Soon
Mass Email Updates
- Mass email updates are coming soon to help make the information you are sending to students more relevant, timely, and useful.
Direct ATS Applications
- We are preparing to release updates to the application process in Handshake that will make it easier for students to apply to external application tracking systems.
- The update will allow employers to choose Apply in Handshake or Apply through external system on their job postings. If they choose Apply through external system, we will still track that student as an external applicant but the student will not have to complete an application in Handshake.

Great, looking forward to it!

This is really exciting. With more than 150 Career Center staff users here at UA, it would be helpful to be able to filter the Staff Management screen by keyword search as well.

Excited about these updates, but also confused...
Where are new student filters (first gen, veteran, athlete) pulling data from? We have some of these as labels currently, but I get zero results when I try to use those filters. I also can't see anywhere that a student would check those items off themselves.
Are there changes to the data sync? Since we have to do this manually, we will have to revise the query currently used. Should we be looking at the technical documentation or...?

Hi Eleanor,
The new student filters (first gen, veteran, athlete) are pulling in from fields in the student data sync. You can see those fields outlined in the technical documentation here.

Will there be a way for students to self-identify if they are first gen? Our registrar doesn't keep this data so it would be really helpful if there was a place in Handshake where students can add it (and then we can filter on it). Thanks!

are there any plans to allow employers to be able to filter by the first gen, vet, or athletics filters? We have many employers that would like to recruit to those student populations specifically, but no way to identify them on their side of the platform.

Hi Anna - We are evaluating ways to help schools that import these fields surface them to employers, as we consider it important for democratizing access to opportunity. We plan to develop a way to allow access in search for these school-specific groups which schools can share with the employers who are motivated to use it.
