Virtual Event Check In
Students will now be tracked as checked in when they click the meeting link on all virtual events your team hosts in Handshake! This will help you easily report on event attendance numbers even when you use external platforms like Zoom or Google Hangouts to host. NOTE: This check in feature is only available when accessing Handshake from a web browser. Mobile support will be available later this year.
Last Calendar Sync
When looking at the Calendar Sync tab in your account, we now display the date and time of your last calendar sync.
Technical Diploma
We’ve added “technical diploma” as a new education type. It is available for students to select in the education type field and can be imported by schools.
Technical Major Groups
We’ve released 25 new major groups to help students at technical and community colleges more easily connect with employers. If your institution supports students with technical majors, we recommend mapping them to these new major groups.

Reminder to Vote
We’ve launched a in-app reminder for students to vote in the US general election on November 3rd. The reminder links off to vote411.org.
Redesigned Virtual Event Page
We’ve updated the event page to make it easier to join virtual events. A banner at the top of the page will include the button to join the event, plus a countdown to the start of the event.
Accessibility
In September, we released the following accessibility updates for students.
- Ensure that keyboard focus remains within modal (pop-up) dialogs
- Ensure that when dialogs are activated focus moves appropriately
- Avoid inappropriate use of ARIA roles, states, and properties

Scheduled Reports
Later this fall, you’ll be able to schedule reports to be sent to external systems or stakeholders as an image, PDF, or CSV. This update will help you showcase the outcomes of your work this fall with other team members and institutional leaders.
New IP Addresses
By the end of the year, Handshake will begin sending some of our existing notification emails from new IP addresses. The scheduled reports feature described will also send reports using a new email address. To ensure that your team and your students continue receiving emails as expected, you should add these new IP and email addresses to your school’s “allowed” list. Please share the following instructions with your IT contact:
Allow the following IP addresses:
- 104.130.123.85
- 161.38.192.196
- 159.135.237.56
- 69.72.46.73
Additionally, please allow traffic to smtp.sendgrid.net on port 587 and add noreply@lookermail.com to your “allowed” list.

Reviews Collection
Handshake is sending a two-email campaign to prompt students to submit reviews of recent work experiences.
- All schools participating in our fall activation campaign have been automatically opted into this email, but everyone will be able to opt their students in/out. Learn more about the campaign, plus how to opt in or out here.
- Learn how to see your students' reviews here.
Sharing Reasons for Job Recommendations
We’re updating some of our digest emails to include reasons why a particular job was recommended to a student. Reasons include the student’s skills and career interests.
Event Relevance
Earlier this year, we built a new model to recommend virtual fair sessions to students, based on their career interests and Handshake profile data. We’re expanding that model so that it can recommend all types of events on Handshake.
- Implementing this model will allow students to sort events by relevance in Handshake. We’ll also be able to use it to add recommended events to Handshake digest emails.
For Employers…
Candidate Hub
In order to encourage recruiters to find new students on Handshake, we’ve developed a hub that will help them discover which students would be good candidates for their open positions and reach out with thoughtful messaging.
An initial version of the hub has launched for premium employer partners. A version for core (free) employers will launch later this fall
We’re also planning to introduce candidate digest emails, highlighting great students for all employers to review.
