As part of Handshake's commitment to keeping users safe on the platform, we'll be partnering with Persona beginning in the summer of 2023.
Persona is an identity verification software that helps ensure that users are who they say they are. This additional layer of security will verify an individual's identity when they create a new Handshake employer account.
The primary goal for validating users through Persona is to prevent fraud from happening, and to make sure that only real, legitimate businesses have access to the platform.
How will Persona validate employers for Handshake?
When a user creates a new company profile on Handshake, they'll be prompted with a pop-up that's hosted by Persona. Here, the company information they provided in Handshake will be prefilled for them.
Persona will then ask for the legal business name, address for the company, and an identification document from the user. They'll need to upload it at that time, or at their convenience later.
Once the verification is uploaded, Persona will review the user instantly by running the data through their verification system. The system will check if the user is providing fraudulent info.
- If the account is found to be legitimate, we'll then update the company's status in our system.
- If the account is not found to be legitimate, we'll then take the appropriate steps to ensure the company is not enabled for fraud on the platform.
We want to create a platform that is safe, secure, and trusted. In addition to creating a more secure platform, this should also help to reduce the overall manual review burden for the Trust and Safety team.
