What are Campus Profiles: Students have always been able to make their profiles public to employers, and now they can opt-in to make their profiles public to their peers, thus facilitating peer to peer learning. Only students who opt-in to campus profiles can see the profiles of other students who have also opted-in.
Why are Campus Profiles Important: We want to enable peer to peer learning amongst all students! Students might not know what kind of work experience or projects to include on their profile. They may also be curious about potential paths for a particular degree. Now they'll be able to learn from other students on Handshake instead of struggling to fill it out alone or requiring a career counselling appointment. In turn, you’ll have a great impact on students.
How to Opt-In to Campus Profiles
When a student first creates a Handshake account, they can choose to make their profile visible to Community, to Employers only, or private, and they can change their profile visibility settings at any time through their User Settings.
- Community: This option will give you access to Peer Messaging! Choosing Community will make you visible to other students and alumni across all Handshake universities, as well as to employers approved by your university.
- Employers: This option will make you visible to employers approved by your university. You will not have access to Peer Messaging.
- Private: Choosing this option means that you are not visible to other students, alumni, or employers. You still have access to Handshake jobs and to other resources provided by your university.
If a student would like to increase their visibility to employers, they should fill out their profile completely, and also make it public (and thus viewable to employers). This way, university-approved employers can search and contact students that have made their profile public.
