How content on Handshake is moderated
Handshake uses both content moderation technology and human moderators to monitor all content posted to the home feed. Content is assessed for compliance with our Content Policy and Terms of Service.
In most cases, any content determined to violate our Policy and Terms will be automatically removed. If it’s unclear whether a post violates our standards, it will be escalated to our human moderators for further review.
What happens to flagged content?
When content is flagged, it is set to a “pending” status and no longer visible on the Handshake home feed while our Trust & Safety team reviews the flag. Once the review is completed, Handshake may choose to remove the content or take other disciplinary action against the offender, including issuing a warning, an account limitation, suspension, or a user’s permanent removal from the platform.
How users can flag content
Users can flag content they believe to be inappropriate or in violation of our Content Policy or Terms of Service. Our Trust & Safety team will review the flagged content.
Content may be flagged directly from your web browser or mobile app.
To flag content, click the three dots located in the upper-right corner of the post, then click Report this... from the dropdown.
In the pop-up that appears, choose the most relevant reason as to why you're reporting the content:
- It's spam or a scam
- It's inappropriate
- It's abusive or threatening
- Something else
Once a selection is made on your mobile device, the flag is sent to our team. To submit your flag via your web browser, click the black button Submit.
Is there an appeal process for those that violate the policy?
If you believe your content was mistakenly removed, please respond to the removal email and someone from our Trust & Safety team will get back to you.
