How do employers get approved at my institution?

The employer approval process for your institution primarily depends on whether your institution is Handshake-partnered or not.

 

If your institution has partnered with Handshake

Institutions that have partnered with Handshake are responsible for their own approval processes. Employer approvals may be conducted individually by your career services office, or via an optional auto-approval setting. The specific processes for approving employers vary from institution to institution.

Institutions may also choose to highlight approved employers by including them in a curated collection. For more information about curated employers at your institution, refer to Curated Employers At Your Institution.

 

If your institution has not yet partnered with Handshake

If your institution has not yet partnered with Handshake, and you’re part of the Handshake Open Network, then Handshake has approved those employers based on SIFT's recommendation and whether the employer has been approved by a Handshake Partner institution. Once employers are approved to connect with your institution, they can interact with you in a variety of ways, as detailed in Employer Interactions with Students. These interactions are dependent on your selected privacy setting as well as your interactions with the employer, i.e., applying for a posted job.
