The employer approval process at your institution depends primarily on whether your institution is a Handshake partner. If your institution is partnered with Handshake, the approval process may vary based on your institution’s specific policies and settings. Non-partnered institutions may have different procedures in place for employer approvals.
Check out the expandable headers below for more information!
If your institution has partnered with Handshake
Institutions that have partnered with Handshake manage their own approval processes. Your career services office may handle individual employer approvals or through an optional auto-approval feature. The specific approval procedures vary by institution.
For more information on how your institution approves employers, we recommend reaching out to your Career Services office.
Additionally, institutions may choose to feature approved employers in a curated collection. To learn more about curated employers at your institution, please refer to Curated Employers At Your Institution.
If your institution has not yet partnered with Handshake
If your institution has not yet partnered with Handshake and you’re part of the Handshake Open Network, employers are approved based on recommendations from SIFT and whether they have been vetted by a Handshake partner institution.
For more information on how employers are validated, check out Understanding how Employers are Validated on Handshake
Once employers are approved to connect with your institution, they can engage with you in various ways on the platform. To learn more about this, refer to Employer Interactions with Students.
These interactions depend on your privacy settings and your engagement with the employer (e.g., applying for a posted job). For more information on privacy settings, refer to Profile Privacy Options in Handshake.
