If you're attending a virtual career fair, event, or interview on Handshake, you can test your video, audio, and connection before it begins!
Click on the expandable headers below for more information on accessing the test in Handshake, then follow the steps outlined below to run the diagnostic test.
Note: this is only available when using the desktop version of Handshake, and not the app.
Career Fair
For more information on registering for a virtual fair, and signing up for sessions, refer to Signing Up for & Managing Virtual Fair Sessions.
Once you've registered for a virtual career fair, signed up for sessions, and you're ready to test!
1. Go to the Career Fair's overview page, then click Your Schedule.
2. Click the white button Test audio and video, located in the "Prep for your session" box in the lower-right corner of the page.
Event
For more information on registering for an event, refer to Registering for an Event.
Once you've registered for a virtual event, you're ready to test!
1. Go to the Event's Details page in Handshake.
2. Click the blue link Test audio and video, located below the event host.
Interview
For more information on attending an employer-hosted meeting, refer to Attending Employer-hosted Meetings.
1. Click your account icon in the upper-right corner of Handshake, then click on My Interviews.
2. Click the white button Test audio and video, located in the "Prep for your session" box in the lower-right corner of the page.
1. Within the pop-up, you'll be notified that you'll be redirected to Twilio's website - click the blue button Test now to run the diagnostic tests.
2. For security purposes, you'll be required to provide your email address. Within the pop-up, enter your email address associated with your Handshake account, then click Continue.
3. Go to your email inbox and locate the email sent by Twilio (noreply@video-diagnostics.twilio.com). Within the email, click the link Sign in to Twilio Video Diagnostics to proceed with your test.
Note: the email should arrive within a few minutes. If you aren't receiving the email, adjust your email's filter/spam settings to allow Twilio to send you emails moving forward, and check for blocks on any 'twilio.com' email addresses. If you have verified that the email isn't in your spam folder and that your domain isn't filtering out Twilio emails, we recommend contacting Twilio Support.
6. From Twilio's website, click the blue button Get Started.
4. Check Permissions: within the pop-up, click Allow to grant Twilio permission to access your camera and video.
5. Check your video: move in front of your camera to make sure it's working.
- If you're able to view your video, click the blue button Yes.
- If you're unable to view your video, try changing the selected camera from the dropdown on the right side of the page, located below the video screen. If the camera isn't part of your computer, check your settings to make sure your system recognises it.
6. Test your audio: record an audio clip and play it back to check that your microphone and speaker are working.
Click Record on the right side of the screen, and use your microphone to record an audio clip. Once finished, wait a few seconds for the audio clip to become available, then click Play back.
- If your microphone and speaker are working as they should, click Yes.
- If your microphone and speaker aren't:
- make sure your volume is turned up
- try a different speaker or microphone using the dropdowns on the right side of the page
- check your Bluetooth settings
7. Browser: make sure your browser is supported.
- If your browser is supported, click Ok.
- If your browser isn't supported, we recommend switching to a browser that is.

8. Follow the remaining prompts to make sure you have:
- Connection success: confirms all connections to Twilio servers are working correctly.
- Expected quality: ensures audio and video quality is up to par and the overall performance looks good.
Once complete, Twilio will inform you of your results! You can download your results, restart the test, review any of the prompts, or close the tab.
