Handshake Home Feed and Post Composer Overview

The Handshake home feed and Post Composer on Handshake are powerful tools designed to enhance the career exploration journey for students. 

In this article, we'll explore who has access to the home feed, how content is uploaded via Post Composer, home feed engagement at your institution, and the future of the Handshake home feed!

 

Handshake Home Feed

The Handshake home feed is an access point or entrance for how content is discovered and consumed by students.

It serves as a discoverability tool that exposes students to various elements of the job search, including: 

  • Career-related content posted by your institution
  • Career-related content posted by employers
    • Only by approved employers at your institution
  • Available jobs
  • Upcoming events and fairs
  • Appointment opportunities

If a student does not meet all the specific qualifications or permissions to access any of the above elements, they will not be available on their home feed. 

The range of content posted to the Handshake home feed can extend from a text post, link, or video.

Note: all students have access to the Handshake home feed via their homepage. Eventually, content in the Handshake home feed will surface within other areas of Handshake. For example, an uploaded video may appear in the Handshake home feed and a job posting for students.

Content displayed on the home feed is unique to each student as it is based on a relevance ranking system on the backend. The relevance of the content is determined by a variety of factors such as the student's major, career interests, location, and graduation year.

Important: only students and alumni have access to the Handshake home feed.

 

Who has access to Posts?

Students have access to posts from their institutions and employers through the home feed. Institutions and employers currently have access to posts that they have created themselves. 

To maintain a fresh and captivating home feed, Handshake intends to surface the following information in the future:

  • 1:1 and Group Sessions with employers
  • Employers to follow
  • Saved jobs and event reminders
  • Peer students to reach out ot
  • Your team's resources
  • Employer collections

 

Post Composer

Post Composer is a tool that allows users to post content to the home feed. Ultimately, this is a part of Handshake's vision to scale content across the platform.

Note: to access Posts, you need the Post Content role with "Access" permission. To learn more about your roles and permissions, refer to School Settings: Career Services Staff Roles and Permissions.

Engagement at your institution

The Handshake home feed dashboard is a feature in Handshake that provides insights into student and alumni engagement with the home feed - this is available at all institutions!

Note: to review the Handshake home feed dashboard, you need the Data role with "Access" permission. To learn more about your roles and permissions, refer to School Settings: Career Services Staff Roles and Permissions.

The future of the Handshake home feed

This is an evolving feature release and will consist of many layers over time. 

The end goal is to have all users posting user-generated content to the home feed via post composer - this includes career services, employers, and students!
