There may be instances where you need to view a student's profile in Handshake, follow the steps below to locate a students profile.
If you need to view as a particular student at your institution, refer to How to View as a Student.
Locate a student in Handshake
1. Click Manage on the left navigation bar.
2. Use the key word search bar and the filters located at the top of the page to locate the student in the Handshake.
3. Click on the students name to be directed to the students profile.
As of March 2026, we've added AI-generated summaries to student profiles. Learn more about them below:
AI-generated summaries
We will be using AI-generated summaries for student profiles. This summary includes job-seeking activity directly displayed on the student’s Handshake profile or their appointments. PII (personally identifiable information) will not be included and student data will never be used to train models.
If your school wishes to opt-out of the AI-generated summaries, go to your School Settings and scroll down to the Configuration section. Then, un-check the box for Student profile activity summary
As a career services user you have access to the following information on the students profile:
Left side of the page
- Name: Student’s full name
- Last logged in
- School Year: Grad month and year
- Pronouns
- Link: If the student has a public profile link, it will be listed here
Actions

- View as this student
- Go to documents: Displays documents including resumes and cover letters
- Schedule appointment

More actions: Opens a dropdown menu providing a variety of options.
- Send Message: Opens a pop up box to message the student
- View appointments

- Explore activity snapshot
- View public profile: Provides an example of what the student’s public profile appears as
- Review student documents: Provide document feedback for documents that are awaiting review
- View calendar: Student’s calendar shows upcoming fairs, events, appointments that the student is signed up for

Overview tab
- Activity Summary: An AI-generated summary about the student’s profile. If there isn’t enough information on the student’s profile, a summary will not populate. Note: If you want to opt-out of using the activity summary for your school, refer to A note about AI-generated summaries

- About: A summary created by the student, limited to 300 characters.

Activity tab
Activity tab displays activities associated with this student user. The initial filter displays every activity from All time.

Notes tab
This tab provides a list of all notes attached to the student’s profile, as well as who posted the note and when. If a note was added and was chosen not to be shared with other staff members, it will only appear for the career services staff member that added the note.
Add note: Select to begin creating a note to add on the student’s profile. Learn more about this process here: About Actions on the Student’s Profile
…: On the right of each note, you can select this option to edit or delete the note
Account tab
Use the account tab to view or make changes to the student’s Handshake account
Institution email address: Select change institution email to update the student’s email address. Learn more about updating institution email addresses here: Update a Student’s Institution Email Address

Past 90 days: Lists the actions the student has taken within the past 90 days.

Latest activity: Provides a log of actions the student has taken in the past 90 days. Selecting this will take you to the Activity tab.
