AI-Assisted Direct Messaging helps you connect with top candidates faster by generating personalized draft messages for 1:1 outreach.
Whether you're inviting a student to apply for a job or encouraging an applicant to interview, the AI creates a tailored draft based on the candidate's resume, Handshake profile, and your job description.

This tool does not influence employment decisions. The AI-generated message is always optional — messages are never sent automatically.
Using AI-assisted direct messaging
To access AI message drafts, you must send a message from the Matches or Applicants tabs of an active job. AI-generated drafts are only available when messaging one candidate at a time.
Note: If you select multiple candidates, the AI draft will not appear.
To compose a message using AI:
1. Navigate to the job posting you want to send messages for.
2. Click either the Matches or Applicants tab.
3. Click to send a candidate a message. The message composer will open with an AI-suggested message pre-filled.
The AI-generated message is based on:
- The candidate's Handshake profile
- Your job description, including requirements and qualifications
Note: Candidates will not be notified that AI was used.
Customizing the AI-suggested message
You have full control over the message before sending. Use the options below to tailor the message to your needs.
Edit and format the message
Use the toolbar at the bottom of the message composer to edit and format your message before sending.
- Rewrite message: Generate a new AI-suggested draft. You can rewrite the message up to 99 times per job match or candidate.
- Text formatting (Aa): Opens a formatting toolbar where you can apply Bold, Italic, or Underline to selected text, or add a list.
