To help streamline the knowledge response process in First Destination Surveys, we've introduced sourced outcomes!
Here are some important key facts about sourced outcomes:
- The data is sourced from LinkedIn (via Coresignal) and from the Work Experiences and Education sections of the recipient's Handshake profile.
- Sourced outcomes rely on graduation groups. Ensure that your FDS has accurate grad group information when setting up your FDS.
- To establish accuracy, data for sourced outcomes must meet the criteria of being about 6 months prior to, and 6 months after, the graduation date listed in the FDS grad group.
- Sourced outcomes are currently only provided for NACE surveys.
How to display sourced outcomes
- Select First Destination Surveys in the left navigation menu and choose a NACE FDS.
- Head over to the Recipients tab. The filters at the top of the table will help with identifying which responses have sourced outcomes. Select Has sourced outcomes.
3. You can select any recipient from the list to display their primary response, if applicable, and their sourced outcome as well. Note that in the image, the sourced outcome is from the student's LinkedIn.
4. (suggestion) It's possible that the data shared in sourced outcomes may be incomplete or doesn't exactly align with the most recent work experience. This may be due to LinkedIn profile visibility settings or limitations with matching Handshake data with LinkedIn data. Select the hyperlinked LinkedIn button to open up the LinkedIn profile in another tab and verify that the information is accurate.
The sourced outcome for this recipient has already been saved, check out the section below to learn how to save sourced outcomes as responses!
Save a sourced outcome as a response
- For this workflow, we'll use the filters at the top of the page to display responses that have a sourced outcome but also require action. Use the Needs attention (students that have not yet responded or have responded that they are still seeking) and Has sourced outcomes filters.
- Select a recipient. It's recommended that you verify the information with the source so that everything is accurate for your records.
-
If you'd like to save the sourced outcome as the primary knowledge response, you can select Save as response.
- A message will pop-up in the bottom right corner of the screen verifying that the response has been saved. The sourced outcome response will then appear as the primary response.
Ignore a sourced outcome
If you don't want to save a sourced outcome as a primary response, you can ignore it.
- Use the Needs attention and Has sourced outcomes filters once again.
- Select a recipient.
-
Click Ignore for the sourced outcome.
-
The sourced outcome will fade and there will no longer be an option to save the response. If you wish to undo this, select Undo ignore.
Are there scenarios where information may not match what's available in LinkedIn?
There are possibilities of technical delays or other conditions that create data discrepancy between LinkedIn and the sourced outcome. It's important to double-check all sourced outcomes to ensure that the information is accurate. If the information is not accurate, it's best to edit the response so that it has accurate information. Here are some examples of sourced outcomes not matching what's in LinkedIn, and why:
- A sourced outcome shows a LinkedIn profile as the source but after clicking the link, no profile appears. This student likely had a LinkedIn profile but either deleted it or changed their settings to hide it.
- The sourced outcome seems to be outdated and the LinkedIn profile has more up-to-date information. The student may have chosen to set the specific section of the profile/experience to be hidden - Coresignal cannot bring over information that is hidden. Another possibility is a delay in our system between identifying the sourced outcome and then bringing that information over to Handshake. If a student updates their LinkedIn during that period of time, the sourced outcome may be outdated.
