Our university partners may tag or flag employers on Handshake who do not align with their institution's moral, ethical, or legal standards.
Like institution connections, every institution has different deciding factors when tagging or flagging an employer. The deciding factors can vary depending on the institution and the employer. However, common factors include industry, employer practices, and any violations of our Terms of Service or policies as observed or reported.
Employer tags
Employers tags are a community-driven resource to help our university partners identify and filter employers that do not align with the standards or policies upheld by their institution.
Please note that tags are only visible to institutions, and don't display to either students or employers.
Tags that are moderated are reviewed and either confirmed or denied by our Trust and Safety team.
If your company is informed of a tag on your company profile that you believe is incorrect, please contact our Support team here.
Employer flags
Institutions, including students, can alert our Trust and Safety team of any fraud or abuse regarding a company, user, or job posting in Handshake.
Flags submitted remain in a pending status while our Trust and Safety team reviews. If appropriate, the employer may be notified and asked to provide additional information or documentation.
Employers who violate our Terms of Service may have their company fully suspended, or individual users and/or jobs may be suspended.
Once a review of a flag is complete, the flag status is updated as appropriate. If a flag is confirmed, our Trust and Safety team will notify the user who submitted the flag, including the users impacted.
If a flag is dismissed, the flag won't be applied to the company profile and the employer won't be impacted.
