If your institution uses appointment scheduling in Handshake, you can request an appointment with a career counselor through either the desktop or mobile app.

Desktop
1. Click Career Centre on the left navigation menu, then select Appointments under your institution's name.
2. Click the button Schedule a New Appointment in the upper-left corner of the page.
Note: All past and upcoming appointments here if you need access to them!
3. Select a category, then choose your desired appointment type. Available dates will appear based on your selection.
Note: If you're unsure which type to choose, contact your institution's Career Centre.
You can also filter by Category, Type, Staff Member, and Appointment medium.
Click a date to view available times, then choose a time that works for you.
As of May 2023, staff names are sorted to help distribute appointments evenly.
Note: If no times are available, your institution's custom message (if set) will appear on the page.

4. Select your preferred appointment medium from the dropdown menu, then enter details about the appointment in the "What can we help you with?" section.
When ready, click the green Request button in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Tip: For virtual appointments, choose "Virtual on Handshake" as the medium.
6. You'll be taken to the appointment overview page where you can add comments or cancel if needed by clicking Cancel (red button).
Be sure to check your notifications for updates on the status of your appointment!

Mobile
1. Tap your Account icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.
2. Tap Career Centre, then tap on Appointments from your Career Centres page.
3. Tap the blue button Schedule A New Appointment.
4. Tap on the desired category, then tap on the desired type of appointment. A list of available appointment dates will be listed based on the category and type selected.
You can use the Category, Type, Staff Member, and Appointment medium menus to change selections and choose from available appointment options.
5. Tap the arrows to the left and right of the Week of [Day, Date] dropdown to locate your preferred week, then scroll down to locate the appointment times for the selected date.
Note: days with available appointments will appear in blue text, while days with no availability will appear in grey text.
6. Tap on a time that works for you from the list that appears under the date.
7. Select your desired Appointment medium from the dropdown menu, then enter details about the appointment in the "What can we help you with?" section.
When you're ready, click the green Request button in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Tip: if you'd prefer a virtual appointment, choose "Virtual on Handshake" from the Appointment medium dropdown!
8. You'll be taken to the overview of the appointment where you can cancel the appointment or add comments before the appointment.
Missing the Career Centre option on the left navigation bar?
here are a few possible reasons:
- Institution not linked: If you've requested to connect with an institution, check your status by clicking your profile icon, then Institution Connections. If it says "Pending," your institution still needs to approve your request.
- No institution on account: If you registered without selecting an institution, features like the Career Centre won’t be available. To connect, click your profile icon, then Institution Connections. Find your institution and request to join.
- Institution not on Handshake (yet!): If your institution isn’t a partner, encourage your career centre to join so you can access more features.
