Update Your Career Interests

When setting up your Handshake account, you're prompted to select Career Interests. If your goals change and you'd like to update the selected interests, you can do so at any time!

You can update your interests from the "Your Interests" section of your profile, or via the Career Interests page - Click on the expandable headers below for outlined instructions.

💡Note: if your profile is visible to employers, interests are not listed on your profile, however, employers may use advanced search filters based on Location Interests, Job Role Interests, Job Seeking Interests, and Job Hunt to help them connect with candidates.

 

From your profile

When viewing your profile, click the pencil icon to the right of Your Interests, located on the left side of the page.

Update the following information: 

  • Job Hunt (click the dropdown and choose an answer)
    • Not looking for a job
    • Actively looking for a job
    • Not looking for a job, I have a job already
    • Not looking for a job, but open to opportunities
  • Job Interests (choose one or more)
    • Full-Time Job
    • Internship
    • Part-Time
    • On-Campus Job
  • Cities (Type in the box to add one or multiple cities)
  • Roles (Type in the box to add one or multiple roles)
  • Industries ( Type in the box to add one or multiple industries)

Click the blue button Save to update your selections!

 

From the Career Interests page

1. Click on your icon, located in the upper-right corner of the screen, then click Career Interests. 

2. Select (or deselect) the checkboxes as desired in each section:

  • What type of job are you looking for?
    • Full-Time Job
    • Internship
    • Part-Time
    • On-Campus Job
  • How can Handshake help you?
    • I want a job
    • I want an internship
    • I want to find out about career centre events (fairs, info sessions, appointments)
    • I want to build my network
    • I'm not sure / just checking it out
  • What options are you considering after graduation?
    • Working
    • Gap Year
    • Volunteering
    • Not Sure
  • What job roles are you interested in? (Type in the box to add one or multiple roles)
  • Where are you interested in living? (Type in the box to add one or multiple cities)
  • Join the career community you are most interested in. [LINK TO YOUR SCHOOL INTEREST PAGE IF AVAILABLE]
  • Which industries interest you? (Check all the boxes that apply)
  • Which kinds of job, or job functions, interest you? (Check all the boxes that apply)
  • When do you expect to graduate? (Click the dropdown)

Click the green button Save My Career Interest to update your selections!
