When a student or alum creates a new Handshake account and submits a request to connect with your institution, a notification badge appears on the person icon in the blue navigation bar at the top of the screen.
Approving or Rejecting Individual Student Requests
1. Click on User Requests (the person icon), located in the upper-right corner of the screen, to the left of Help.
2. The default filter settings on this page show all student requests with a None Decision. This means that the requests haven't been approved or declined yet. You can set the filter by selecting Decision. For now, we will discuss the workflow for any student requests that haven't been responded to yet.
3. To approve or decline a request, select the dropdown menu on the right titled None. The options to Approve or Reject will appear. Select one of these to either approve or decline the request.
4. A box will appear asking you to confirm your decision. In this example, approving the request was selected so the box asks to confirm approval for this request. "This can't be undone." Select Yes, approve to confirm.
5. The student will no longer appear in the table as they have been approved. If you approved the student, you can change the Decision filter to Approved to verify that the student has been approved. The same can be done if a student was rejected, using the Rejected filter.
The dropdown menu in the right-most column will be greyed out, as these request statuses cannot be changed once you set them to Approved or Rejected.
Note: if a student request is accidentally denied, you can add manually connect the student to your institution using the process outlined in Add an Existing Student Account to Your Institution.
Approving or Rejecting Multiple Student Requests
Simply select the checkbox to the left of the name to choose all student requests, or use the individual checkboxes next to each student name to select those students. Then choose to Approve requests or Reject requests.
Note: You will be asked to confirm your decision, which cannot be undone once confirmed.
