This article will explain the different notifications related to a student requesting to connect to your institution.
Career Services Email Notification
If a student has requested to connect to your institution, you will receive the following notification.
Note: If you didn't receive this notification, you may need to update your notification settings. Refer to Career Services User settings: Default Notification Preferences for more information.
From: Handshake <handshake@notifications.joinhandshake.co.uk>
Subject: "You have a new notification on Handshake"
Header: "You have a new notification"
Content: "Hello YOUR NAME,
STUDENT NAME has registered as a student from your institution and is waiting for approval. You can view and respond to this request on Handshake."
Student Email Notifications
When a student or alum creates their own account and requests to connect to their institution on Handshake, an email notification is automatically generated (details and example below).
From: Handshake <handshake@notifications.joinhandshake.co.uk>
Subject: Pending Student Registration
Header: Pending Student Registration
Content: "Hello NAME,
It looks like you are a student at INSTITUTION NAME. The administrators at INSTITUTION NAME have been notified and will be approving your request. For further assistance, please contact your institution at EMAIL ADDRESS."
Note: while the request is pending, the student will have limited access to Handshake until they are approved. For more information on the limited access a student will have refer to If You Can Only Access Profile and Fairs.
If the connection request is approved either automatically or by a career services staff member, an email notification is generated (details and example below).

Your request to join INSTITUTION NAME has been approved."
Note: If a student is rejected, they will not be notified.
