Handshake is designed to be a professional and respectful community. If you'd prefer not to interact with another user on the platform, you have the option to block them directly from their profile
What Happens When You Block a User
Blocking a user will:
- Prevent them from messaging you
- If the user is an employer, this also includes bulk messages and campaigns sent by that employer
- Hide your profile and activity from them
- Remove any past messages between you
- Hide them from your view in:
- People search
- Event attendee lists
- Job pages (e.g., “Alumni who worked at this job”)
- Your feed and other shared views
Important: Blocking a user is currently a permanent action. If you need to unblock someone, contact us.
How to Block a User
- Go to the user’s profile. You can do this by clicking their name anywhere you find them on the platform.
- Click the three dots menu located in the upper-right corner of the page (to the left of Message), then click Block.
3. In the pop-up the following message is displayed:
“Are you sure you want to block [NAME]? Blocking this user will prevent them from messaging you and will hide your profile and activity from them. You will no longer see their activity on Handshake, and they will no longer see yours.
If you wish to report this user for violating our terms of service, let us know [LINK].”
Confirm you want to block the user by clicking the black button Yes, block or Cancel to cancel.
Once confirmed, a message will appear in the lower-right corner letting you know the user has been blocked successfully
