If you come across an employer that raises concerns, you can notify our Trust and Safety team by flagging the employer in Handshake using your web browser (on desktop or mobile). Flagging is not currently available in the Handshake mobile app.
Employers will not be notified when a flag is submitted for review. If a job or user is suspended following the review, the employer will receive a notification detailing the suspension and the specific Terms of Service violation that led to it.

Flagging an employer
Employers can be flagged via two ways on Handshake.
- The Employer's Company Profile by clicking Flag this Employer for abuse, located in the lower-left corner of the page.
- The employer's Job Posting by clicking the three dots menu, located to the right of the Apply button, then clicking Flag or report employer.
In the popup that appears, choose all the reasons that apply:
- Fake or fraudulent employer
- Ex: this employer or job is fake or misrepresenting itself
- Scam, phishing, or malware
- Ex: this employer or job is a scam, asking for private personal information or posting suspicious links
- Advertising or promotional content
- Ex: this employer or job is for something other than hiring
- Discriminatory practices
- Ex: this employer is discriminating against me
- Offensive, abusive, or harmful conduct
- Ex: this employer offers a negative hiring experience, abusive work environment or is harassing students
- Exploitative, unethical, or illegal practices
- Ex: this employer is operating in an illegal or unethical manner
- Adult content
- Ex: this employer or job post promotes nudity, sexual scenes and/or adult language

Review and moderation process
Once a flag is submitted, our Trust and Safety team will begin the review within one hour, with a maximum time frame of 1-2 business days. The exact duration may vary depending on the severity of the issue and whether the flag is submitted during our business hours (5am - 5pm PST).
