What is AI Skills Studio?

AI Skills Studio is a free, self-paced learning experience for practicing and building practical AI skills. Learners build those skills through hands-on projects called missions, which are short, guided exercises designed for learning and self practice, not for paid work on Handshake AI.

Each mission uses the same tools and workflows companies use every day, so learners can practice in a realistic environment without any real-world stakes. Developed with partner companies, missions give learners a feel for real workplace tools, expectations, and ways of working.

Every mission ends with a tangible practice deliverable, from a personal website or dashboard to a company hiring brief, that Learners can use to demonstrate their skills and apply what they’ve learned independently.

AI Skills Studio is included as part of Handshake and is completely free for anyone with a student account. It's mobile compatible, so learners can access missions and the AI Instructor right from the app. 

Note: Some missions use paid (“Pro”) features of third-party tools. While learning on Handshake is free, completing certain missions may require you to have a paid subscription to a third-party tool. 

AI Skills Studio is currently in Beta and rolling out in phases, so it may not yet be available to all students — availability will expand over time. To start, access is available to Handshake users with a student or alumni account in the US, Canada, and roughly 30 European countries

 

Why should I do missions in AI Skills Studio?

The skills and experience you build through missions can help strengthen your candidacy for opportunities like the Handshake AI Fellowship, but completing missions in AI Skills Studio does not guarantee acceptance into or placement within Handshake AI.

 

What learners can do in AI Skills Studio

  • Browse and start any mission — there's no required order or prerequisite
  • Work through a guided, voice-based AI instructor (or follow written instructions instead)
  • Build in real third-party tools (Gemini, ChatGPT, Slack, etc.), guided by instructions in Handshake
  • Track progress automatically and pick back up right where you left off

 

How to access AI Skills Studio

  1. Log in to your Handshake account.
  2. On desktop, click AI Skills Studio in the left navigation, or go directly to app.joinhandshake.com/learn. On the mobile app, tap AI Skills Studio in the bottom navigation.
