Screensharing options in a session hosted with integrated video on Handshake vary between browsers, and additional permissions may be required to share the first time.
A user's screen can only be shared when joining via desktop web and not via mobile web.
Note: students can share their screen via the Handshake mobile app for iOS, as long as the session host as enabled participant screensharing.
The following description of each supported browser includes steps from the time you click the share screen icon in the lower-middle of the video display, assuming you are using the most recent version of the browser.
Click the name of your specific browser to view additional details.

Chrome allows you to share the contents of your screen via:

- With Spaces on a Mac, you can see only application windows within the same space. If an expected app is missing, move the window to the same desktop space your browser is in.
- a specific Chrome tab
Click the desired item to share, and a preview displays in the pop-up. If the shared item is as expected, click Share.
When an active share is in progress, the screen share icon is initially highlighted with a black and green ring. When you click onto anything else, the highlight changes to only a green ring.

Sharing pre-recorded video
There isn't a Handshake supported way to play a pre-recorded video during a session. However, you can share your screen during the session and play a video via a tab, window, or another application.
If you share a video in this manner, the audio will play from your computer's selected speaker and feed into your selected microphone. So, ensure that there are no headphones connected and your microphone volume is high.
We'd recommend testing this setup with a colleague ahead of time to confirm functionality. Check out Handshake Video Test.
Closed captioning
As a host, you can leverage Google Slides or Microsoft Powerpoint to add real-time closed captions.
Attendees also have the option to enable closed captions with Google Chrome.
Tip: if your attendees are curious about accessibility features, they can refer to Attending via Video on Handshake.
The following caption options are available:
Once you've enabled closed captions using Google Slides or PowerPoint, select the screen or tab with your Google Slides or Powerpoint presentation and your attendees will then be able to view the presentation with closed captions.
