Screensharing options in a session hosted with integrated video on Handshake vary between browsers, and additional permissions may be required to share the first time.
Users are only able to share their screen when joining on desktop web and cannot share screens via mobile web. General system specifications are outlined in Host Requirements for Integrated Video.
- Note: students can share their screen via the Handshake mobile app for iOS, as long as the session host as enabled participant screensharing.
Details of each supported browser describe steps from the time that you've clicked the share screen icon in the lower-middle of the video display, with the expectation that your browser is the most recent version.

Mac system requirements for screen sharing
To share a screen or window on a Mac, you must give each specific browser or app permission.
1. Open System Preferences, then select Security & Privacy.
2. Click the lock in the lower-right corner to authenticate for changes.
3. Select the Privacy tab, select Screen Recording, then check the box for the desired browser.
If the browser is open when you change this setting, you must quit and reopen the browser for the changes to take effect.
- Tip: for a smooth experience, make sure this permission is granted prior to your session start time!
Sharing prerecorded video
There is not a Handshake supported way to play a pre-recorded video during a session, however, if you are able to share your screen during the session and play a video via a tab, window, or another application, you can do that!
If you choose to share a video in this manner, the audio will play from your computer's selected speaker and feed back into the selected microphone, so make sure there are no headphones connected and your mic volume is increased to pick up the audio!
We'd recommend testing this setup with a colleague ahead of time to confirm functionality.
