If you've received a message from a recruiter on Handshake and would like to respond, there are many benefits in doing so!
Connecting with a recruiter is a great way to learn more about particular roles at their company, as well as events they're attending. It also helps you make a personal connection to the companies you want to work for in the future!

Respond directly to a recruiter
Messages sent via recruiters include, but aren't limited to, event invitations, promotional campaigns, and recruiting messages.
To respond to a message sent by a recruiter, start typing your response in the available text box within the message. Once the response is complete, click Send to the right of the text box.
If you've received a campaign message from an employer, and you're not interested in the company or location, you may choose to mute further communication for 90 days. For more information on muting campaign messages, refer to Mute Employer Campaign Messages for more details.
If you received an introduction message to connect with an advocate, and you'd like to reply directly to the recruiter who sent the message, start typing your response in the text box, located below the introduction, then click Send.
To respond to the advocate, click on the expandable header below!
Respond to an advocate via recruiter introduction
If you received an introduction message from a recruiter, you can reply directly to the advocate whom you were introduced to!
These messages have a prompt stating:
"Next step! Talk to an advocate
Click the white button Message advocate to respond - a new message will open with a few prompts to help get you started with a reply!
Advocates are introduced to you to get insight, advice, and build confidence in a low pressure way.
Choose one of the following prompts to start your message, or start typing in the text box:
- What does the day-to-day look like for this role?
- How can this role support my professional development?
- What advice do you have to help me stand out for this role?
- What's it like working at the company?
Once your message is complete, click Send to the right of the text box.
