Upon being invited to join your company on Handshake as an Advocate, register and complete the onboarding process, so you can begin to share your experiences and expertise with candidates.
By completing the onboarding form thoroughly, you can maximise the quality of the interactions and connections you build.

Register on Handshake (if applicable)
If you've received a unique invitation link to join your company on Handshake, click on the link, then follow steps 1-6 outlined in Create an Employer User Account, Join a Company, and Connect with Institutions.
Once these steps are completed, you can follow the steps to Complete onboarding.
Confirm your email address
As soon as you're invited to join your company on Handshake, you will receive an email to confirm your email address.
1. In the email, click Confirm My Account (hyperlinked text, or red button).
Note: the email invitation will vary depending on whether you were invited with a unique code or added as a staff member.
Added as a staff member
Invited with a unique invitation link.
After you confirm your email address, you will be directed to Handshake to set your password.

Passwords on Handshake must:
- Contain a minimum of eight characters

Contain characters from two of the following three character classes:
- Alphabetic (e.g., a-z, A-Z)
- Numeric (i.e. 0–9)
- Punctuation and other characters (e.g.,!@#$%^&*()_+|~-=\`{}[]:";'<>?,./)
- Note: passwords are not encrypted.
2. Enter and confirm your new password, then click the blue button Confirm Account.
The message "Account confirmed" will display in a green banner at the top of the page.
3. Enter your password to sign in.
4. A pop-up will appear with Handshake Employer Guidelines, which includes our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Check the box for "I agree to the Terms of Service and have read the Privacy Policy", then click the green button Continue.
Complete onboarding
Welcome! You can now begin to onboard. The onboarding page highlights how you can set candidates up for success.
To set up your profile, click the black button Set up your profile at the bottom of the page.
In each section, complete as many of the fields as possible. While some fields are optional, we recommend completing as many fields as possible in the onboarding form to optimise your interactions with candidates.
- Fields that cannot be edited are disabled and appear greyed out.
Note: to save your progress and continue where you left off, click the blue text "Log out," located in the upper-right corner of the page.
Basics section
In The basics section, complete the following fields:
- First name (pre-populated)
- Last name (pre-populated)
- Pronouns (optional)
- Location (optional)
- Enter city and state, or state and country.
When completed, click the black button Next.
Work experience
In the Work experience section, complete the following fields:
- Job title
- Start month and start year
- Description (optional)
- 2-3 sentences about your projects and day-to-day.
To add additional experiences, click the white button Add experience.
When completed, click the black button Next.
Education
In the Education section, complete the following fields:
- Institution
- Graduation year
- Education level (optional)
- Course (optional)
- Description (optional)
- 2-3 sentences about your coursework, concentration and extracurriculars.
To add another education entry, click the white button Add education.
When completed, click the black button Next.
Final touches
In the Final touches section, upload a profile photo and a headline.
Upload photo
To upload a profile photo, click the white button Edit photo, then click the white button Upload photo in the pop-up modal.
Once the photo is uploaded, use the "Zoom In" (+) and "Zoom Out" (-) buttons to adjust the level of magnification of the photo within the modal window, then click the black button Save in the lower-right corner.
- To remove your photo, click the white button Remove in the left-right corner.
When completed, click the black button Finish in the lower-left corner of the page.
