Campus Profiles are an integral part of the peer-to-peer learning and sharing experience. A Campus Profile is a student or alumni profile that is visible to other Handshake students.

Why are Campus Profiles important?
For instance, you might be unsure of what work experience or projects to include on your profile, or you may wonder about potential career paths for a specific course. By connecting with others, you can learn from their experiences! Get valuable advice on choosing a course, building a CV, and much more.
Campus Profiles also offer a chance to connect with students and alumni working in fields of interest. You can ask them about their experiences, gain insights into different industries, or even start building your professional network for the future!
Â
How do Campus Profiles work?
All students on Handshake have profiles and can access the People page. However, to engage with peers on the Explore Students page, you must set your privacy settings to Community. Without this setting, you won't be able to view full profiles or send messages.
Campus Profiles include the following sections:
- Profile Picture
- *Pronouns - only if they have chosen to share their pronouns with peers
- Level of study and Grad Date
- Education
- Work & Volunteer Experience
- Organisations/Extracurriculars
- Modules
- Projects
- Skills
- A Message buttonÂ
Important: certain fields cannot be viewed by other students - these include your Work authorisation status, Email address, Ethnicity, Gender, Hometown, or any documents you've uploaded.
To update your profile in Handshake to help other students find and connect with you, refer to Completing your Profile in Handshake.

Explore the People Community page
On the People page, Handshake displays two sections:
- Peers you might know
- Alumni to follow
Each section shows up to 3 peer suggestions, each with a Follow button. Next to every suggestion, you'll find a profile summary that includes their name, institution, level of study, course, two most recent employers, and two most recent organisations.
For more details on following users on Handshake, check out Following Users on Handshake.
You can also use the filters at the top of the page to discover more peers to connect with:
- Keyword Search
- Institution
- Employer
- Job role
-
All filters (opens as a side sheet)
- Course
- Degree
- Grad year
- Skill
- Organisation

If your profile's privacy is currently set to Employers or Private
If your privacy setting is currently set to "Employers" or "Private," you can access the Explore People page and use the search filters. However, you will not be able to send messages to other students.
When you click on a student’s name, you’ll be taken to their profile, but the option to message them will be unavailable.
Â
Â
To enable messaging, you’ll need to update your profile's privacy setting to "Community." For instructions on how to change your privacy settings, refer to How to Change Your Student Profile Privacy Setting.
Once your privacy setting is set to Community, you will be able to send messages both from the People page and from individual profiles.
For more information on sending messages, refer to Peer Messaging in Handshake.
Â
When your profile's privacy is set to Community
When you find a peer you’d like to message on the People page, click their name to view their profile in Handshake. From their profile, click the button Message to start a conversation!
For more information on sending messages, refer to Peer Messaging in Handshake.
