Why are Campus Profiles important?
How do Campus Profiles work?
All students on Handshake have a profile and can view the Explore People page. However, only students that have their privacy settings set to Community can engage with other peers on the Explore Students page. Without this privacy setting, one cannot view full profiles or send peer messages.
Campus Profiles display the following fields:
- Profile Picture
- *Pronouns - only if they have chosen to share their pronouns with peers
- Level of Study and Grad Date
- Education
- Work & Volunteer Experience
- Organisations/Extracurriculars
- Courses
- Projects
- Skills
- A Message button
Important: certain fields cannot be viewed by other students - these include your Work Authorisation, Email address, Ethnicity, Gender, Hometown, or any documents you've uploaded.
To update your profile in Handshake to help other students find and connect with you, refer to Completing your Profile in Handshake.
Explore the People Community page
On the Explore People page, a list of students/alumni that have a Campus Profile in Handshake will appear. A summary of the profile is displayed, including their name, institution, level of study, course, two most recent employers, and two most recent organisations.
Use the filters on the left of the page to identify interesting peers:
- Name search (keyword)
- Your institution only - all participating students & alumni will be listed by default, so you can use this filter if you'd like to only view peers connected to your current institution
- Alumni Only
- Levels of Study
- Courses
- Previous Employers
- Student Organisations
If your profile's privacy is currently set to Employers or Private
If your privacy setting is presently on Employers or Private, you can view the Explore People page and use the search filters. However, you won't be able to initiate a message to other students.
If you click on their name, you'll be directed to their profile, but you won't have the option to message them.
To have the option to send a message, you'll need to update your profile settings to Community. To change your privacy setting, refer to How to Change Your Student Profile Privacy Setting.
Once your privacy setting is set to Community, you'll have the option to message peers from the Explore People page as well as their profiles.
For more information on sending messages, refer to Peer Messaging in Handshake.
When your profile's privacy is set to Community
When your privacy is set to Community, you'll have the same view of the Explore People page, with the addition of a message icon to the far right of each student or alumni name.
Click:
- On a student's name to view their full profile
- The message icon to send a message
For more information on sending messages, refer to Peer Messaging in Handshake.
