This error occurs when your role, permissions, or account type in Handshake restricts access to a specific page or task.
Check your role and access level
Roles such as Advocate, Recruiter, or Admin determine your permissions in Handshake. Ensure your role is appropriate for the action you're trying to complete.
For more information on role-specific access, refer to our Guide to Employer Role Types in Handshake.
Confirm your permissions are enabled
Even if your role is correct, certain permissions may not be enabled for your account. Contact your company's Owner in Handshake to request the necessary access.
For help identifying your company profile Owner, visit Who Is the Owner or Admin of My Company Profile?.
Ensure you're using the correct account type
Another possible cause of this error is registering with the wrong account type. If you accidentally signed up as a student instead of an employer, you will need to create a new account using the employer registration process.
For guided steps, visit How to Create an Employer Account on Handshake.
Verify which company profile you're connected with
If you are connected with a company profile in Handshake, you can only view content and activity for that specific company. You will not be able to access or view information from other company profiles, such as their posted jobs, created events, or fair registrations.
To confirm which company profile you are connected with, click Brand page from the left navigation bar. The Brand page will display the name of your connected company, including its location.
If you need to disconnect from your current company profile and connect to a different one, visit Leaving a Company in Handshake.
On-campus employer designation
If you are an on-campus employer and are receiving this error when trying to manage jobs, review applicants, or download applicant data created by teammates, you may not have been designated as an on-campus employer by your company profile Owner.
This designation is required to manage jobs and other content created by yourself and teammates on Handshake. Contact your company profile Owner to request the designation.
For more information, visit Identifying as an On-Campus Employer on Handshake.
