Our educational partners may tag or flag employers on Handshake if they do not align with the school's moral, ethical, or legal standards.
Each school determines its own criteria for tagging or flagging employers, which may vary based on the employer’s industry, practices, or violations of Handshake’s Terms of Service and policies.

Employer tags
Employer tags are a community-driven resource that help our educational partners identify and filter employers that do not align with their institution's standards or policies.
- Tags are only visible to institutions and are not displayed to students or employers.
- Tags are reviewed by Handshake’s Trust and Safety team, who confirm or deny them based on the school's submission.
Employer flags
Employer flags allow schools and students to report potential fraud, abuse, or violations involving a company, user, or job posting on Handshake.
Flags remain in a pending status while reviewed by the Trust and Safety team. If needed, employers may be asked to provide additional information or documentation.
- If confirmed, the flag will be applied, and users impacted by the flagged activity will be notified.
- If dismissed, the flag will not affect the employer, and no action will be taken.
Employers who violate Handshake's Terms of Service may face the suspension of their company account, or specific users or job postings may be suspended.
