You are allowed to upload as many documents as you like, however, only one document may be featured on your profile (or considered public) at a time.
To upload a document in Handshake, refer to How to Upload a New Document or if you prefer a video option, check out Video: How to Upload a Document.
Click on the expandable headers to learn more!
A document is considered public if it has been marked as "Featured on Profile" or "Visible".
Public documents are visible to certain employers in Handshake including employers:
- you've applied for a job with
- you've signed up for a virtual fair session with
- hosting an event you've registered for
- that have been thoroughly vetted by our Trust & Safety team and are approved to recruit at your school, via your profile and the student search - for more information on this small subset of employers, refer to the Employer Outreach Activities section of Employer Interactions with Students.
Note: For documents to be viewable on your profile for these employers, your profile privacy must be set to either Employers or Community. For more information, refer to Profile Privacy Options in Handshake.
Career Services users with the corresponding permissions are able to view all documents uploaded on your account, regardless of visibility setting.
While you may upload as many documents as you like, only one resume may be featured on your profile (visible) at a time. This helps reduce confusion for employers and career services.
If you have a Campus Profile, note that your documents are never visible to other students in Handshake!
Private documents (documents not set to "featured" or marked as "visible" on your profile) can be attached to specific job applications only.
The employer who receives the application will be able to view the document (as will your school’s Career Services Center), but other employers on Handshake will not be able to view it.
It’s a good idea to keep personalized documents (like cover letters) and customized versions of your resume private and only for use in specific job applications.
Change Document Visibility
To review which document is currently visible on your profile, click your account icon in the upper-right corner of Handshake, then click My Documents.
Refer to the column "On Profile" - if the circle is filled in green with a white check, that indicates it is visible. Click the circle to quickly change visibility.
Note: if you're registered for a virtual fair in Handshake, at the time you sign up for your first employer session in that fair, we provide a reminder to ensure the desired document is marked as visible. Employers can download resumes from the RSVP list, only if the document is visible.
