We recommend creating a student account associated with your career services account, in order to test different functionalities in Handshake from a student perspective.
To link your Career Services account with the Student account, you must use the same email address that is connected to your Career Services account.
First, find out whether or not you already have a Student account. While logged into your Career Services account, click on your name in the upper-right corner of the Handshake screen, then click on Switch Users. If Switch Users isn't listed, or if you click on Switch Users and you don't have Switch to Student Account on the following screen, you will need to create your student account.
Best Practice: If you are not actually a student, we strongly recommend setting your account visibility to Private, so that employers don’t accidentally source you instead of your students when looking for candidates. For more information on how to do this, refer to How to Change Your Student Profile Privacy Setting.
To create your student account
1. Click Manage from the left navigation bar in Handshake.
2. Click the tab New Student in the upper-right corner of the page.
3. Enter the information for your student account:

Email address (Make sure you use the same email address that your career services account uses so you can switch between these accounts)

*Username (Username is used in student imports to identify a student. It must be unique.)

Auth identifier (This should be the username users sign in to your Single Sign On system)

*First name

Preferred name

Middle name

Last name

School year

Visa status

Assigned To

Work study eligible

Exclude From Automatic Syncs (Checking this box will make sure that this user is not updated by any automatic student syncs you have setup in Handshake.)

4. Click Create User in the lower-right corner of the page. When you choose to Switch Users, you should now have the option to Switch to Students Account.
Best Practice: Handshake recommends that you create a label for all career services student accounts so they do not throw off any reports that you run. Example: cs students.
