Default Notification Preferences (Students)

When a student account is created in Handshake, some notifications are enabled by default. This helps make sure you do not miss important updates.

You can change these default notification settings at any time. For step-by-step instructions on updating your preferences, refer to Managing Your Notification Preferences.

How to read the tables below

Each section below lists the optional notifications available in Handshake. For each notification, the table shows whether it is active by default for Email, In-app, and Push (mobile).

Active: An X in the table means the notification is turned on by default for all new student accounts.
- In screenshots, these appear with a green checkmark.
Inactive: A blank space means the notification is turned off by default.
- You can turn these on or off at any time in your Handshake settings.
Not available: N/A means that notification type is not available in that format.
- In screenshots, these appear as a red circle with a slash.
