Appointment Notifications are available for both career services users and students with appointment affiliations on Handshake. In this article, we will explain when notifications will be sent out for appointments and what might initiate those notifications. To learn more about student notifications, please refer to Student Appointment Notifications.
When are students notified about an upcoming scheduled appointment?
Students receive 2 notifications:
-
One notification 24 hrs before the appointment
-
One notification 1 hour before the appointment
When will students be prompted to complete a pre-appointment survey?
They will be prompted to complete the pre-appointment survey while they are scheduling the appointment (only if there is a custom survey set in the appointment type).
When will CS (Career Services users) be notified regarding appointments?
This will depend on their notification preferences. Users can choose to receive notifications either by email or via Handshake, or both!
To manage your notifications, refer to Career Services User Settings: Manage Your Notifications.

How are notifications sent for Drop-In appointments?
Career Services users will only receive notifications if they have the waiting room open (usually we recommend in another window) and if they have one of these options checked in the following Notification Preferences checked:
"When I am viewing the waiting room page, notify me when a student checks in for a drop-in appointment"
Students will not receive a notification, as they are usually checking into a kiosk at the time of the drop-in appointment.
If there is a post-appointment survey, the notification will be generated when the career coach clicks Complete on the appointment.
Note: if the appointment is edited and the status is marked Complete via the radio button, this will bypass the post-appointment survey notification.
Is there a way to bypass notifications for students?
Any action or change made to an existing appointment can generate a notification. Even if the appointment has passed.
In the case an appointment should be included on your calendar without any alerts, you'll need to enter it as a past appointment with the status marked as completed.
