Insights provides an optional AI assistant that you can use to create, summarize, and modify reports. The AI is located in a few different locations in Omni, we'll discuss where and how this assistant can be helpful for your reporting needs.
If you do choose to use the AI Assistant, we highly recommend double checking the work to ensure that the information the assistant provides you is accurate. AI is always being improved and is not yet perfected. It requires human intervention and prompting to reach desired outcomes. If you ever feel unsure about the information or report provided by the AI Assistant, contact Support.
Note: Using the AI Assistant is not a requirement for Insights. You can opt out of using the AI Assistant by not engaging with it in Insights.

Introduction to the AI Assistant
The AI Assistant has a few different names we may refer to it by:
- AI Query Builder
- AI Query Helper
- AI Assistant
- Omni Agent
At the end of the day, the AI Assistant is here to help you with your task. Whether it's creating a report, modifying one that's already existed, answer questions that you might have about Omni, or creating a visualization for data, it can do pretty much anything!
Creating a query from scratch using the AI Assistant
- Head over to Insights and select New in the top right corner of the screen.
- From the list of starting point topics, select Ask AI
- This will open a chat with the AI Assistant. You can ask it to do anything at this stage, create a new report, explain different features in Insights, or tell it what information you're trying to report on and ask it to give suggestions. The screenshot below shows an example of asking the AI Assistant to run a query on job postings created on or after 2025, as well as how the AI Assistant decided to create the report. If you want to make modifications to a report created by the AI Assistant, select the Display fields & topics button in the top left corner of the page.
- Continue modifying the report or ask the AI Assistant to update the report until you reach your desired outcome!
Tip: Since AI is generative, your mileage my vary on the response you may receive, however, a good prompt to ask the AI Assistant is: “Show [who/what] in [timeframe], grouped by [how to breakdown/visualize], with [table/chart/calculation]”
For example: “Show approved jobs created in the last 90 days at my institution, grouped by employer and job type, with a bar chart of the top 20 employers”
Updating a report using the AI Assistant
- Open any saved report and select Explore in the upper right corner of the screen to make modifications to the report.
- Select the
(Workbook Agent button) to open a chat with the AI Assistant
- In the chat, request that the AI Assistant make a modification to the report. For example, "add a column for the student attendees' school year " or "filter on only active students".
- Check the AI Assistant's response and the report to ensure that your request was fulfilled.
What else can the AI Assistant do?
Create a visualization of data
Go into any query that's already been created and ask the AI Assistant to create a visualization of the data. In this example, we asked for a pie chart on employers that were created within the last 3 years and each slice shows that total number of job postings for that employer.
Answer questions you might have about Insights
For example, you might see that there's a way to create an XLOOKUP function, but you may not necessarily know what it is. You can just ask the AI Assistant and it will give an answer for that.
Create an XLOOKUP function in an existing workbook
If you're feeling unsure about how to set up an XLOOKUP function, ask the AI Assistant! Using the example from the above screenshot, the AI Assistant was asked to create an XLOOKUP that bring average salary data based on major into another query that has students counts by major. The AI will show its work so you can verify whether the information is accurate. Example:
What is the AI Assistant unable to do?
- The AI Assistant cannot set up a schedule to send a report or alert. You can set up a schedule yourself by following the steps in: Analytics: Scheduled Reports
- The AI Assistant cannot create two separate visualization charts for two different queries. If you want to do this manually, refer to the following steps:
- Save the query as a tile on a dashboard
- Create a second query and save it as another tile
- On the dashboard, click Edit to arrange them side by side
