In Handshake, all jobs posted to your school must be approved by career services before students can apply.
The Job Automatic Approval setting lets you automatically approve jobs that do not meet specific criteria you define, allowing your staff to focus on positions that require closer review.

Before you begin
Before modifying Job Automatic Approval settings, confirm the following:
- You have the Manage Job Automatic Approval permission on your account.
- Any staff member with the Manage Staff permission can grant this. For more information, visit School Settings: Career Services Staff Roles and Permissions.
- Job Automatic Approval settings do not override auto-approve permissions previously set for a specific employer.
- If an employer is already configured to have their jobs automatically approved, your settings will not prevent their jobs from being auto-approved. For more information, review Employers and Jobs System Setup and Managing Employers.
Configure Job Automatic Approval settings
1. In the left navigation panel, click Jobs.
2. Click the white Auto-approval settings button in the upper-right corner of the Jobs page.
3. In the modal, enable the Automatically approve jobs toggle to configure your settings.
Note: The criteria you configure in these settings represent exceptions to automatic approval. Jobs that meet any selected criteria will be withheld from auto-approval and will require manual review.
Available exception criteria include:
- Job is posted by a new employer (employers with no previously approved jobs at your school)
- Job is located at a residential address
- Employer tag

Compensation
- Job is unpaid
- Job does not include exact amount (e.g. $50K/yr)
- Job does not include range (e.g. $40-$60K/yr)
- Note: If you select all three compensation options, any jobs where the employer opted out of sharing salary information will be sent to your school's pending tab.
- On-campus, Work-Study, and co-op jobs
- Job type
- Job duration
- Employer industry
- Employment type
- Employer label
- Work authorization requirements undisclosed or not required
- School year
- Degree level
- Location type

States
- Jobs located in states not listed will require manual approval; jobs located in listed states will be automatically approved
- Jobs outside of the United States
- Employer outside of the United States
- Job role
4. Click the black Apply Settings button to save your selections.
- These criteria will apply to all future jobs posted to your school until you update them.
- Any jobs currently in a pending state must be manually approved or declined.
5. In the confirmation modal, click the black Confirm button to apply the changes to your institution.
Jobs that do not meet any of the criteria configured in these settings will now be automatically approved.
Filter for automatically approved jobs
To view jobs that were approved through Job Automatic Approval:
1. In the left navigation panel, click Jobs.
2. Click the Approved tab to view jobs your school has approved.
3. Select the Jobs automatically approved filter from the All filters section. This filter displays all jobs that were automatically approved, whether through the Job Automatic Approval settings or through settings configured for individual employers.
