Student engagement metrics provide your career centre data to identify the frequency in which your students engage with different resources in your Resource Library.
Topics:
To access the Resource Library in Handshake, click Resources under the Communicate Category in the left navigation panel.
View Count and Sorting
On your Resource Library page, you will have access to the number of views for each resource. The count provided here is the total number of views from the past year.
A new Sort by category will be selectable. Select Last updated to sort by either Last updated, Most Viewed, or Least Viewed.
Download list of resources
The Download list button in the upper-right corner of the list of resources will download the full list of resources in your Resource Library. A CSV file with the following fields will be provided:
- Resource title
- Author

- Category list
- Number of total views from past 30 days
- Number of unique views from past 30 days
- Number of total views from past 6 months

Individual resource engagement statistics
Select a resource from the Resource Library. On the centre-right of the screen, the following information is provided:
- Total views of the resource
- Unique student views
- Clicks on any links in the article
- Downloads of any attachments
- Plays on any embedded videos*
The information is reflective of the student engagement in the last 365 days. If a resource was added less than 365 days ago, then the information will be reflective of student engagement since the resource was added.
*Student engagement on embedded videos has been captured since September 22, 2023. As a result, the data will be provided from that date forward.
FAQs
What are unique views?
The number of unique students viewing the article in a certain time frame.
What are total views?
The number of total views of this page by students only.
What happens if I unpublish and republish my resource, do they view and click counts reset? No, the engagement counts do not reset. If you unpublish a resource and move it to the draft state, you are still able to see engagement stats on the draft list page. You are also able to download stats for those articles as well.
Do the counts include views on mobile or only views from desktop?
Yes, both! The counts take into account engagement from mobile and on desktop.
Do the views and clicks include interactions from career services user accounts?
No. The data you see is only generated by student user engagement. We filter out any engagement taking place from career services accounts.
If I ‘view as’ a student and then view and click on items within a Resource, will that engagement be included in the statistics?
No. Any actions when you “view as” a student are not included in these statistics.
Is this data 100% accurate? What could potentially impact the view or click counts I’m seeing? This data you see should be taken as a general indicator of what content is viewed and clicked on by your students - not a perfect representation of exact clicks. A couple of factors may impact the counts you are seeing, including:
- Certain ad blockers that students may have added to their browsers will not allow tracking of views or clicks.
- If you have multiple occurrences of the exact same link in the article, you will see one combined count. (For example if you included www.example.com at the top of the article and again at the bottom of the article, you will see just one view count for that link rather than two separate counts.
