Handshake’s virtual career fairs are free for all partners this autumn. We wanted to ensure no institution or student misses out on any engagement opportunity with employers.
That said, we have created a few simple guidelines for usage. The primary cost of virtual engagement is video. While Handshake is prepared to absorb the cost for our partners this autumn, we defined a few sensible parameters for engagement to prevent “always on” use.
Our guidelines for free use are as follows:
- Events that are career-related
- Events that are hosted by the career centre
- Events that are between 3-6 hours
If your event falls outside of these parameters, that’s OK! Just reach out and let your Relationship Manager know what your plans are and we’ll be happy to work with you.
Depending on what we learn over the course of the semester, it is likely we will introduce an incremental cost to cover video or other technology after the autumn 2020 term; however, this cost will be in the form of a small service charge to employers during fair registration. We understand that your budgets don’t change between semesters and want to make sure that you are able to continue to use virtual fairs without any additional cost. We will provide more information on the approach to Spring 2021 pricing in the future.
FAQs
Can I run my office’s appointments through virtual fairs?
No. We ask that you restrict the use of our virtual fair features to just career services-hosted career fair-type events.
How will registration fees work if the price gets reduced due to a move to a virtual fair?
You will be able to apply discounts to registrations, as you can in the existing career fairs module. Although we don’t know exactly what this will look like in the product interface yet, we can confirm that you will have control over price variance around fairs.
Other vendors cap the number of employers who can sign up for a career fair, will Handshake have a cap or a recommended cap that you can support?
We know some vendors will have a cap on the number of employers that can be at an event at once. There will not be a cap like this in our tool; however, Handshake will be paying for video engagement, so we need to monitor video usage in some capacity so that it doesn't become extremely high. If you follow the guidelines provided above, your usage will remain free.
Is this a module?
No—virtual fairs will be part of every university contract in the future.
