The Details tab in School settings contains your institution's basic information, contact details, branding, configuration options, and calendar settings.
What permission do I need to update the Details tab?
To update information on this tab, you need the Manage School Profile permission. This permission is labeled Manage School Page in Staff Management.

How do I access the Details tab?
1. Click your name in the upper-right corner of Handshake.
2. Select School Settings.
The Details tab opens by default.
Note: Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*). If your institution recently partnered with Handshake, some required fields may already be completed. Review the information to confirm that it is accurate.
How do I update basic institution information?
The Basics section contains the following fields:
- Name: Your institution's full name. This field is required.
- School Short Name: A shortened version of your institution's name.
- Institution size: The range that represents your institution's undergraduate population. This field is required.
- Location: Your institution's address. If your institution has multiple locations, enter the address of the primary campus. This field is required.
- Time zone: The time zone where your institution is located. This field is required.
- Nickname: The name or abbreviation your institution commonly uses. For example, the University of California, Berkeley may use "Cal."

Custom career center name: The name displayed beneath your institution’s name on the student homepage banner and in the upper-left header of the Career Center landing page. Enter up to 70 characters.
- If this field is blank:
- The homepage banner displays “Get help from your career center.”
- The Career Center landing page header displays “Career center.”
- If this field is blank:
- Year Established: The year your institution was established.
- Motto: Your institution's motto.
- Institution Affiliation: Whether your institution is private, public, or government-affiliated.
How do I add contact information?
The Contact section contains the contact information associated with your institution:
- Website: Your institution's website.
- Phone: The primary phone number for your institution. Use the format 000-000-0000.
- Email: The primary contact email address for your institution.
How do I add information about my institution?
Use the About section to provide additional information about your institution:
- Mission: Your institution's mission statement.
- Description: A brief description of your institution.
- History: A brief overview of your institution's history.
This information helps students, employers, and other users learn more about your institution.
How do I update my institution's logo and banner?
The Logo section displays the branding image associated with your institution.
To update your institution's logo or banner:
1. In the Logo section, click the school page link.
2. Click the pencil icon on the logo or banner image.
3. Upload the new image and adjust it as needed.

How do I configure institution settings?
The Configuration section contains settings that control account requests, appointments, employer connections, and work-study jobs.
Note: Handshake preconfigures your institution’s email domain. To update it, contact Support.

Auto approve students: Automatically approves a student when all of the following are true:
- The student registers with an institution-provided email address.
- The email domain matches the domain configured for your institution.
- The student selects the correct institution during registration.
- User request custom message, link, link label, and info label: Customizes the information displayed when a student requests an account at your institution. For instructions, read How to Customize a Student's User Request.
- Maximum open appointments: Sets the maximum number of concurrent appointment requests a student can have.
- Appointment Cancellation Timeframe: Determines how far in advance a student must cancel an appointment. Enter a number, then select Minutes, Hours, or Days.
- Appointment Request Buffer Time: Determines how far in advance a student must request an appointment.
- Employer Approval Request URL: Provides a URL employers can use to automatically request approval from your institution. You can generate a new URL if the existing one is being misused. Generating a new URL invalidates the previous one.
- Enforce work study: Limits work-study job visibility to students marked as eligible for work study.
How do I export calendar data and add tracking?
The Calendar Export & Tracking section contains the following options:

Calendar Export: Adds your institution's interview schedules, non-drafting career fairs, and approved non-private events to an external calendar.
- Use the provided URL for a calendar that updates automatically when information changes in Handshake.
- Download the iCalendar file for a static version that does not update automatically.
- This export contains institution-wide activity. Individual calendar exports are available in User Settings.
- Google Analytics Code: Adds your institution's Google Analytics tracking code to pages students access in Handshake. For instructions, read Connect to Google Analytics.
After reviewing or updating the information on the Details tab, click Update School in the lower-right corner of the page.
