Terms are used to organize an academic calendar year at your Institution, and are used to identify Experiences in Handshake.
Note: at least one active term is required to use Experiences in Handshake.

Create Term
1. Click on your name in the upper-right corner of the screen.
2. Click School Settings.
3. Click Terms from the menu located on the left side of the page.
4. Click the blue button Create Term in the upper right corner of the page.
5. Within the pop-up, enter the following:
- Term Name
- Choose a name to identify the term in Handshake.
- Start Date
- Use the calendar icon to choose the first day of the term
- End Date
- Use the calendar icon to choose the last day of the term
- Mid-Term Date (Optional)
- Use the calendar icon to choose a Mid-Term date
The dates in which the Mid-Term and Final Evaluations are sent, are determined by the dates selected within the term. If the Mid-Term date is not specified, a Friday halfway between the start and end will be used — The Final Evaluation will be sent on the end date.
6. Click the blue button Save Term in the lower right corner of the pop-up to save!
Edit Term
1. Click the pencil icon, located to the right of the term you'd like to edit on the Terms overview page.
2. Within the pop-up, edit any relevant dates that need to be updated.
3. Click the blue button Save Term in the lower right corner of the pop-up to save!
Note: if the term has any experiences connected to it, the dates will be updated to reflect the new dates. If the evaluations for an experience have already been sent, Handshake we won't send it again.
Delete Term
Only active terms that aren't connected to an experience can be deleted. Once an experience is created with the term, the term can only be edited or archived.
1. Click the pencil icon, located to the right of the term you'd like to edit on the Terms overview page.
2. Click Delete in the lower left corner of the pop-up.
Archive Term
If you no longer want students requesting an Experience with a specific term, we recommend Archiving the term.
Archiving a term won't impact existing experiences associated with the term, and you're still able to report on the term without any issues within insights or quick downloads.
Click the file box icon, located to the right of the term you'd like to archive on the Terms overview page.
Reactive Term
if you previously archived a term and need to re-activate it, Handshake offers the opportunity to do so!
1. Click the Archived tab in the upper-right corner of the Terms overview page.
2. Click the pencil icon, located to the right of the term you'd like reactivate.
