You can manually add a teammate to your company profile whether or not they already have a Handshake account.
Note: Handshake allows each user to be connected to only one company profile per email address.

Check if your colleague already has a Handshake account
To avoid errors during the invite process, check whether your colleague already has a Handshake account before adding them.
1. Open an incognito window to avoid being automatically logged in, then go to https://app.joinhandshake.com/login.
2. Enter your colleague's email address in the field labeled 'Email address', then click the Next button.
If no account exists
- If no account exists, a message appears that says: Oops, we don't know you yet. If that happens, which option feels right for you?
- Proceed to Manually adding a teammate without an account.
If an account exists
- If an account exists, you will be prompted to log in, which means your colleague already has a Handshake account.
- Proceed to Manually adding a teammate with an account.
Manually adding teammate without an account
If your colleague does not have an account yet, you can manually add and invite them to join your company profile.
1. Click your name in the upper-right corner the page, then select Teammates from the dropdown.
2. Click the gray Add Teammate Manually button in the upper-right corner of the page.
3. Complete the fields on the New Teammate form. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. Your colleague can edit this information later.

Message (this message is included in the invitation email)
4. Click the green Create User button in the lower-right corner of the page.
5. A confirmation banner will appear at the top of the page: “User added. An email has been sent to the user with a link to let them set their password and login.”
6. The user will receive an email invitation to set their password and access their account.
The email will read:
Subject: "You have been invited to Handshake"
From: Handshake <handshake@notifications.joinhandshake.com>
Body:
Hello [NAME], You have been added as a staff member at [COMPANY NAME] by [INVITEE]. An initial account has been set up for you. Your username is [EMAIL].
Please confirm your account by clicking this link: [LINK].
Thank you,
The Handshake Team"
7. When your teammate clicks the link, they will be redirected to set and confirm their password. After that, they can log in.
Manually adding a teammate with an account
If your colleague already has a Handshake account, they may need to resolve their current status before they can join your company profile:
Not connected to any company: They can request to join your company, or you can add them from the Teammates page.
Note: They must confirm their email address before they can be added to a company profile.Pending approval at another company: They must cancel that pending request first.
Connected to the wrong company: They must disconnect from that company before joining yours.
Add the existing user
Once their status is resolved:
Click your name in the upper-right corner of the page, then select Teammates from the dropdown.
In the Add existing user by email… field at the top of the page, enter your colleague’s Handshake email address.
Click the gray Add User button.
The user will be added to your company profile.
If you cannot add them using “Add existing user by email…”
If the system does not find your colleague when you enter their email in the Add existing user by email…field, they may not have an employer account yet, even if they already have a Handshake student or alumni account.
In this case, use the Add Teammate Manually feature and enter the email address the teammate uses for Handshake. For complete steps, refer to the section Manually add a teammate without an account.
This will create an employer account that is linked to their existing account.
