Don't want to manually fill out every section of your profile? Use Autofill from resume to let Handshake read your resume and fill in your profile for you — saving you the time of copying and pasting your information field by field.
This feature is available on web and iOS.
💡Note: Autofill is a fast way to get started, but it's not a replacement for reviewing your profile. Always double check what gets added and edit or remove anything that doesn't look right.
How to autofill your profile
1. Click your profile icon in the upper-right corner, then select Profile from the dropdown menu.
2. From your profile, click Autofill from Resume, located within your Profile Completion Checklist.
3. In the Add your resume pop-up, choose a resume for your profile.
- If you've already uploaded resumes, choose one from the Your Resumes dropdown.
- If you haven't uploaded a resume yet, click Upload a New Resume and select your file.
Note: If you upload a new resume, decide whether your resume should be Visible to employers. When this is checked, your document will be available to employers to help them find and match you with relevant jobs — it won't be visible to other students. To learn more about document visibility, refer to Understanding Document Visibility.
4. Click Continue.
5. Handshake will read your resume and show you how many new items it found (for example, "4 new items surfaced from your resume!"). Review this, then click Add to profile to apply them, or Cancel if you'd rather not.
6. Once added, check your profile. Sections that were filled in or updated by autofill will show an Updated from resume tag, so you know exactly what changed and can edit or remove anything that doesn't feel right.
🚀Tip: Autofill tends to add more to your profile than filling it out manually, including skills and work experience you might not have thought to add yourself. It's a great way to get your profile sourcer-ready quickly.
What autofill can add
Autofill can pull information from your resume into sections like:
- About/Summary
- Skills
- Work experience
- Links (e.g., a GitHub or portfolio URL, if listed on your resume)
- Location
Not every resume will produce updates to every section — what gets added depends on what's in your resume.
