Talent List allows employers to identify and further nurture prospects through curated, individual messaging.
All role types except for Representative can access Talent List in Handshake. To view your specific permissions, select your role from A Guide to Employer Role Types in Handshake.
This feature is only available to on-campus employers and Pro, Essentials, and Enterprise (formerly TES) customers. For more information, please check out this resource!
Access Talent List
Click Talent from the left navigation bar. The page displays a list of the following types of students from your approved schools:
- Students who have opted to share their profile with employers
- Students who have engaged with your company on Handshake by:
- Following your company on Handshake
- Applying for a job
- RSVP'ing to an event or fair
- Checking into an in-person event or booth at a fair
Within Talent List, you can filter search results, save searches, view detailed student profiles, and message students directly. For more details on each feature, click the headers below.
Talent list (filters)
The Talent table has a set of filters at the top, allowing you to narrow your search.
Employers with access to Talent List can filter by:
Major groups
Schools
School years
To further refine your search, click the button All filters. This opens a side sheet with additional filter options, such as:

Applying filters
When filters are set, the buttons that match the filter are highlighted in gray. Your search results will only show candidates that match the filters you have chosen.
Removing filters
To remove filter(s), click the relevant button. Then, either click the 'X' next to each applied filter or the white button Clear to deselect all filters. Finally, click the black button Apply button to save your changes.
Save searches
1. To save a search based on a unique set of filters, click the white button Save search in the upper-right corner of the page.
2. In the modal, enter a name and a brief description for the search, then click the black button Save search.
Note: To save a search, both fields must be completed.
3. The confirmation message "Saved search successfully created" will appear in a banner at the top of the page.
4. To apply the same set of filters in the future, click the downward arrow next to the button Save search, and select the saved search you would like to apply. Then, click the black button Apply search.
Profile engagement
The student table shows each student's historical interactions with your company, if any, displayed as buttons.
To view more information about a specific interaction, click the corresponding button.
Once clicked, the side sheet will open on the far right of the page to display the student's interactions.
To view the engagement history for a specific activity type, click the corresponding tab in the header bar.

Student profiles
The main profile details of each student, such as their education and number of skills, are included in their respective row.
- For more information, click on their name to view their profile summary on the side sheet.
- To view their complete profile, select the blue View profile link in the upper-right corner of the side sheet.
- On the student’s profile, you can view and add notes, add or create a new label, and message them. Learn more about Viewing Student Profiles.
Message students
You can message students from either the student table or the student summary side sheet.
Note: The Talent page currently displays a maximum of 100 students per page, and you can send up to 100 messages per page. For more information about your message limits, refer to Message Limits in Handshake.
Bulk messaging from the Talent page is not available to Recruiters (Standard) or Advocates.
- To send a message to a specific student from the student table, click the white button Message located on the far right of their row.
- To send a message from the side sheet, click the black button Message located in the upper-right corner.
A pop-up message window will appear where you can type your message. Once complete, click the black button Send.
- At the bottom of the message box, you can find options to format your message, insert web links, and access additional tools like templates and variables to personalize and enhance your communication.
Bulk actions
Labels
Employers can add labels to multiple students at once from the student table. Read more about Using Labels to Manage Applicants.
1. Check the box to the left of Candidate in the header bar, then click the white button Manage labels.
2. A pop-up modal will appear, and prompt you to click to add or remove a label from the student(s) selected.
- To create a label, click the button Add labels, then select New label. Enter the name for the new label in the Label field, then select what the label will be used for from the Used for dropdown.
- To add a label, click the button Add labels, then choose an existing label from the Add labels dropdown.
- To remove a label, click the button Remove label, then choose the label you want to remove from the Remove labels dropdown.
3. Upon adding or removing a label, click the black button Apply in the lower right corner.
Message
Only users with appropriate permissions can send bulk messages from the Talent page. Recruiters (Standard) and Advocates do not have this access.
- Check the box to the left of Candidate in the header bar, then click the white button Message.
- To complete your message, refer to the steps outlined for Message students.
Note: All bulk messaging at Handshake is capped at 500 recipients per message.
