Handshake users can create multiple account types using the same email address, such as Career Services, Employer, and Student accounts.
If you have more than one account type linked to the same email address, you can switch between them without logging out.
To switch between account views, each account must be created using the same email address.
Each linked account must also have a confirmed email address before you can switch between account views.
You may need to switch account views if:
you are in the wrong account view
you cannot access certain features, such as teammate management
you need to complete an action that is only available to a specific account type
Switching users from a career services account
Click your name in the upper right corner of the Handshake screen.
Select Switch Users from the dropdown menu.
All connected accounts will be listed. Select Switch to Students Account or Switch to Employers Account, depending on which account you would like to access.
Switching users from an employer account
Click your name in the upper-right corner of the Handshake screen.
Select Switch Users from the dropdown menu.
All connected accounts will be listed. Select Switch to Career Services Account or Switch to Student Account, depending on which account you want to access.
Switching users from a student account
1. Click your account icon in the upper-right corner of the Handshake screen. This may appear as your first initial or a small photo if you have a profile picture.
2. Select Switch Users from the dropdown menu.
3. All connected accounts will be listed. Select Switch to Career Services Account or Switch to Employers Account, depending on which account you would like to access.
If an expected account does not appear
If an expected account type does not appear in the list, or Switch Users is unavailable, confirm that each account was created with the same email address.
If your accounts use different email addresses or different email domains, Handshake treats them as separate accounts and they will not be linked for switching.
Errors when switching accounts
If you receive an error message while switching accounts, review the sections below.
Email verification required
If you receive a message indicating that you need to verify your email address, you must verify the email associated with your Handshake account.
Click the verification link in the message to receive a verification email. Then open the email and follow the instructions to complete verification.
Common reasons you may receive this message include:
Support manually added your account upon request
Support assisted with a sync and your account was not fully verified
Note: Each account created in Handshake must be verified before use.
Email confirmation required
If you receive a message stating that you have not confirmed your email address, you will need to confirm the email associated with your account.
Click the link in the message to resend the confirmation email, then follow the instructions provided.
