When a school approves your connection request on Handshake, they may grant a specific set of permissions. These permissions determine what your company can do with that school, such as posting jobs, creating events, or requesting interview schedules.
If a school does not appear as an option when you try to create an event, post a work-study job, or request an interview, the school may not have granted you the necessary permissions.
Note: You must have an approved connection with a school before you can review your permissions.
Check your permissions
1. From the left navigation bar, select Schools.
2. At the top of the page, click the gray My Network button to display schools you are currently connected with.
3. Locate the school you want to review permissions for, then click the school’s name to open its profile.
Tip: Use the search bar to quickly locate the school by name.
4. In the Account information panel on the right side of the school's profile, review your permissions:
Granted permissions are displayed as badges under the Permissions section (e.g., Post jobs, Post interview schedules, Post work study jobs).
-
The Auto approvals section indicates whether your jobs and interviews are auto-approved or require school approval.
A green badge means auto-approval is enabled
A red badge means the school must manually approve.
If a permission such as Post work-study jobs is not listed under Permissions, the school has not granted that permission.
If you need additional permissions
Only the school can update employer permissions. If you need additional access, please contact the school’s Career Services department directly to learn about their approval process.
