Handshake can track virtual attendee check-ins at career services-hosted events. To check in, a student clicks the meeting URL directly from the event's page in Handshake.
Note: Check-ins are only counted when students click the link from within Handshake. Copying and pasting the link outside of Handshake will not register a check-in. This feature is only available when accessing Handshake via an internet browser.
Set up your event for virtual check-ins
To enable attendee check-in tracking, confirm the following before the event:
- The event location is set to Virtual only.
- A virtual attendance link is included on the event.

Student registration and check-in
The virtual attendance link is only visible to students who have registered for the event.
Note: Students can click the link to join the event up to 5 minutes before the event start time.
Remove an early check-in
1. Click Attendees in the upper-right corner of the event overview page.
2. Locate the student, then uncheck the Checked in box to remove the check-in.
Note: Clicking Remove Attendee cancels the student's registration entirely. The student will not receive automated event reminders and will need to re-register to rejoin the event.
Report on attendee check-ins
Virtual check-ins are recorded the same way as kiosk check-ins, including a date and time stamp. This data appears in the following locations:
- Event overview page
- Attendee list (Attendees tab)
- Attendee CSV download
- Analytics saved and custom reporting
